How soon is to soon to turn aged out SD room into a guest room?

blueeyes6's picture

This question unfortunately is not for me. I still have 6+ years to go on my SD sentence until they both age out. My best friend is a SM and her SD aged out and moved out in September and she was asking what I thought about the situation. Her DH said that they should turn the room into a guest room right after the New Year. I told her that she should just go by what her DH said after all he is the BF but I was just curious what you all thought about an appropriate amount of time before changing the room?

Yep. We painted SD's room, and ripped up the carpet and put new floors down and turned it into a guest room. If SD wants to come and VISIT fine, she can use the GUEST room. But she no longer has a room in our home.

LOL That's what I was going to say. As soon as the door closes and the vehicle leaves the driveway, I would be changing the room so they cannot come back lol

The day that ASS left, I turned that room that he had been in, and Thing2 before him, back into my office.

It also serves as the guest room, but ASS's ass will never be in my home again, so there's that Smile

I agree. There would still be a bed to sleep in if SD decided to grace them with her presence. It's not like they are turning it into a beer pong room or something. Although that would be way more fun!!!! }:)

DH said MIL turned his old room into a guest room before he officially moved out. Blum 3 He'd gone on a week long camping/fishing trip with his dad, best friend, and best friend's dad. When they got back, all of his personal stuff was packed in boxes in the living room and the furniture was pulled away from the walls so she could paint the next day.

My parents never redecorated my room, but the closet space was taken over as soon as I moved out to an apartment instead of a dorm. Of course the only reason they hadn't redecorated was that Mom never made it a priority.

DH and I agreed that when a kid moves out to their own place, we can redecorate the room that day if we so choose. Heck even if they have a signed lease I will start redecorating if I choose to do so.

Since her DH in on board with after the New Year, unless she has a pressing need for the room I would suggest to your friend that she not rock the boat.

If the kid has moved out, SKID or BIO, they don't live there anymore. It's not "their" room anymore. Pack up anything she left behind, tell her she's got a month (or two, or whatever you are ok with) to go through it/take it away and that's that. Do whatever you want with the room.

My OSS stopped coming over around the age of 14. We waited a year for him to decide to come around and my DH finally decided that was long enough and we took over his old room. I actually just sold his bed about a month ago. We had it in our storage only because we didn't have anything else to do with it.
Now he is away at college and we will never see him again...unless he wants money.

My BS is in the service and left four months ago. His room is still as is (only cleaner) because he will still come back home when on leave. I won't take over his room until I am sure he is launched and has a place of his own. He is still early into his military career so he isn't able to actually live off base yet.
I don't need two spare rooms anyway and it will actually get used when he comes on leave so no big deal.

Depends. If your DH has younger skids that have been poisoned with PAS, you have to step lightly. I slowly dismantled the shrine and waited about six months after the final PAS out, but a regular age out or, GASP, launch you could do it much sooner.

It took about 3 years to purge everything for good.

humm Aergia still has a full year for school left, and she will use her room for this year, then she will be back for holidays...

How long before I can turn it into a guest room.... already started, bought new curtains, new carpets, 2 single beds, SO is already forcing her to empty her cupboards get rid of junk.... the day she leaves the room will be painted and carpets will be washed..... thus second day of her being gone it will be full blown guest room....

ya all think that's to quick?
