Another DuH Moment

Frustr8d1's picture

Every day after school, SD12 will sit in her room supposedly doing homework for hours. The only time she comes out is for dinner. While we're eating, DH & I try to discuss things that might be relevant or important for SD to learn and discuss with us. But, day after day, she will sit quiet and not say a word or even ask a question. I purposely bring up topics that might stir curiosity and evoke a question. Instead, nothing. Crickets. Oh, but if DH starts discussing SD's homework or chores, SD has plenty to say in resistance.

So tonight I told DH I'm just fed up with her lack of interest in anything somewhat challenging. I told him I feel helpless because there's nothing I can really do to make her actually study and learn her homework (you know, me being the stepmonster and all) and that I feel like I can't change her apathy. He responds, "Yeah, I know. Me too. There's nothing we can do."

Well, I was trying to gently tell him that it can't be me, it needs be him who addresses her laziness when it comes to homework but point missed.

Nope, you don't do anything.
I gave up with SD9 and her homework this year.
The teacher has noticed both BM and DP aren't following up. You know, 'cause it was ME.
SD9 is super smart, she just doesn't want to do anything that she thinks is "boring."
I don't help solve boredom.
