I kept looking at her. "It's my gum."

She kept looking at me. "You let me have some the other day."

"Yeah, but I don't feel like it."

She pressed on. "I can go get it, I know right where it is." (I keep some in my truck's console)

I stayed firm. "No. If you want some, ask your dad. Or you can ask your mom to put it on the shopping list. But it's not up to me to provide you with gum."

Note, she never said please. So... my mind was saying, "HELLNO."
