Does anyone have any experience in protecting an abused child when social services are not interested? The whole story is too long to go into but its all in my previous blogs. Long story short SS has had his mind twisted by BM to tell police that I abuse him. The last 12months have been a nightmare. Social services dropped all charges against me but put her youngest 2 kids on the child protection register bcos of HER treatment of them 4 months ago. During the last few weeks SS has sustained unexplained burns to various parts of his body all whilst in his mothers care. I think she burns him as punisment as the burns are usually in places he would find hard to reach (eg middle of his back) we have been on to social services to voice our worries time and time again over the last few weeks but they say when they ask her she says they are accidental burns from when he gets hold of the iron!! (hello keep ur iron out of reach then stupid cow!!!)
DH phoned social services ydy to get an update and they have taken the kids off the register bcos BM has 'engaged well and ticked all the boxes'. This child is still being abused and noone wants to know! Where do we go now? police wont act bcos hes known to social services. What has to happen b4 someone will sit up and take notice!!
Also how is it I get treated like a criminal over allegations with no supporting evidence but she gets off scot free when her child is covered in burns!! argghh!

Any possibility of getting him a nanny-cam type teddy bear? Otherwise, I'm also at a loss. (((hugs)))

Take your SS to the ER each and every time he comes with new burns. Tell the ER Dr that he comes with these burns frequently from his mother house. Drs are mandatory reporters and will document the injuries.

Protective services will give it a higher priority coming from a Dr rather than within the family.

I was going to say - Doctor/ER whatever - take him and get it documented by a 3rd party. This is how we finally got custody of my cousins kids who had a BM who was hurting them for attention (Munchausen By Proxy) and the doctors were a huge help.

Yes, you will have to take him to the ER and let them report it. When things like this happen, depending on the CPS worker, a lot of the times, they get it in their head that multiple referrals made by an ex spouse is a form of retaliation. They see it as a neverending custody squabble where both parents try and use social services as a way to gain custody. They should be investigating the burns, but it sounds to me that you guys are getting screened out and will continue to be screened out and no amount of calls from you guys will change that. If it is a 3rd party, like a doctor, teacher, nurse, counselor, it will most likely and most surely should be addressed. Plus, like the other posters said, they are mandated reporters and are given a higher priority. Once a referral is put in and an investigation is opened, you need to get an attorney and file for an ECO based on the allegations and open referral and go thru family court not deprived court with social services.
