O/T Thinking Of Retiring

thinkthrice's picture

sooner rather than later... Would like to see if I can draw on SS Widow's Pension (Awesomeson's biodad) at age 60 at which time I would have  20 years in the retirement system.

Chef would still owe CS on YSS and I would work at his business part time.  Been working at least one full time job (usually accompanied by two part time jobs) since 1978 and am getting tired of it.  Would like to spend my days gardening, home decorating, cooking, canning and at the gym!  Hell I might even be a grandma by then; Awesomeson and his bride want to have a child.

Sounds pretty sweet. Definitely run the numbers & clarify your options & timing. I'm working hard so I can slow down & retire down the road, hopefully: gotta remember to Work to Live, not live to work. Love the sound of gardening too.

You can get SS until you are  62 YO.  Then it will be your late husbands SS. With a 20% reduction. For some reason nibody can give you the actual amount.  Check pension. Some time pension have a trigger date like 20 y or 25 years. Where it goes up a lot at that point.

So I was hoping to start the SS widower's pension at age 60 through 65 and then get on my own SS.   My retirement would definitely be available after the 20-year mark which happens to coincide with my 60th birthday

Awesome for you!    I could take early in exactly 2 years at 59.5.   It would be rough financially so I may go til 62 but i love to dream about 2 more years.
