I Survived!

thinkthrice's picture

The 10 day road trip with Chef for the most part went well.  Other than Chef's big tantrum in the beginning on the actual Mardi Gras.   He admitted he was gassed and he asked me if I had a hangover the next day which was sheer projection.

I said I did not.  He calmed down after that.  Got angry a few days later because I put ice directly into a cooler instead of bags of ice.  Sorry but my family always put the ice directly into the cooler not leave it in bags.

Another thing I noticed:  My new car has Android Auto and despite a giant map right in front of his face, he drives in a straight line if I don't continue to navigate/cue the turns!

The weather was great and we got to visit quite a few interesting places.  Another thing I noticed though is that he absolutely refuses to take military discounts on admission tickets probably because he was in the army reserve for less than a year and left on an honorable discharge due to the death of his mother.

From here on out I will just buy the tickets online in advance and do the military discount that way.  I am glad to get my senior citizen discount I can tell you that much!

It's funny the things you notice about another person when you are on holiday.  Chef has ZERO elevator etiquette!  He always gets on an elevator like a charging bull even if there are people waiting to get off instead of letting them get off first!

I actually got him to dress up when we went to Commander's Palace in New Orleans!  I did end up catching a LOT of beads but I also caught a cold which Chef now has.  I made it!  But now Chef wants to go down south for MG EVERY year!!!!

Thankfully, it doesn't read "I survived, but Chef's funeral is pending. Typing from jail." Wink

Glad you had a good time despite Chef's silliness.

WE saw that when were in the Garden District on a tour and wondered how it was.

We will be going back to New Orlean's.  I loved it there..

You have to make reservations three months in advance.   They have a dress code and they have a LOT of staff that is extremely attentive.  When you walk in the entire staff welcomes you by saying "Welcome In!"

It is right across the street from Cemetary #1 which we had taken a tour of a few years back when we were visiting NOLA.

The owner came up and greeted us too which was great!

Wait..people put bags of ice directly in the cooler and don't dump them out?? I've never heard of that LOLLL.

Glad you guys had a good trip besides the tantrum to start !

Bottled beer and soda...no food

When we go to the beach it's food and drink in one cooler. Growing up it was mixed too. Has to be where you live then?? I've never seen a cooler with ice bags just in them haha.

It is funny how you can love your DH but still find his etiquette and habits annoying as heck. My DH does the elevator charging bull thing, too!  LOL. Dh also eats chips in the car and leaves crumbs in the gear shift, which drives me nuts. I guess no one is perfect. I'm glad you had a great time!

I kiss on elevators.  Just with my bride though. Good thing it is not just an I kiss everyone on an elevator thing or I would spend a lot of time in jail or recovering from getting punched.

DW and I started that when we lived in a high rise in Qatar and continued it when living in other hotels over the years.   Now, any elevator is an opportunitiy to suck face.  Whether we are alone or not.

Pardon

And I thought that my husband and I (aka the geriatric elevator smoochers) were unique in the passion that overtakes us on a vacant elevator! Humph! However, the canoodling and grab-assing that we manage during those brief windows of opportunity are pretty intense.

I only did that once with a semi BF.

I hate driving in New Orleans. I am glued to the map program.

Haven't been to Commander's Palace but I did have a $100 breakfast at Brennan's when DH and I were first dating!

And cemetary tour the last time we went.   On the way down we stopped in Louisville and went to the Brown hotel which is supposedly haunted.  Chef even asked about the 14th floor Which is funny because he doesn't believe in that stuff.  Although he does believe in the spirit of his parents.

We drove through Alabama and headed to Biloxi Mississippi where we did actually spend MG and it was great.  We did some tours in Mississippi including Beauvoir.  From there we went to New Orleans and we visited the hotel Monteleone which is also supposely haunted.  We got in line early and got a seat at the carousel bar.

We did a haunted bar crawl and saw a real life alligator which we took a photo of on one of the back roads in Louisiana.

From there we went to Nashville and went to the country music hall of fame which was up Chef's alley.

I absolutely LOVE NOLA, it's where DH and I got engaged! We go at least every-other-year. This year we went with friends and there was all kinds of drama, which put a damper on things. Also, none of them cared where we ate at ALL, and I love cajun food so I love to eat when I go. They kept saying they wanted to get pizza or would suggest we eat at House of Blues. FFS, that's not where you eat in NOLA! I told DH It's fun to go with others sometimes, but I almost prefer just him and I or maybe 1 other couple.

I have never been to Commanders, although I've heard a lot about it. Must try it! Glad you had a good time.

My DH eats chips and popcorn like a toddler. The carpet under his spot on the couch and the coffee table end up looking like a 2yr old ate there. It truly boggles the mind.
