Anybody want to Buy A Pet Python?

thinkthrice's picture

Yep,  OSSstb 22 is selling his male python as "he did not realize how much it costs for upkeep."   Umm he works part time at a smoothie place owned by one of the Gir Clan's relatives (who are on the verge of bankruptcy), he's living with his GF who lives with her BM.  Is asking $300 or BO for said python.  Well gaming and pot costs a lot of money as well, both of which he is full involved in. . . HMMM.  Seems every other month he has a "fire sale" of some sort.   His GF actually has a REAL job working full time for an ARC.  Wonder how long it will be before she comes to her senses and dumps OSS?

What a dipshidiot. Make that a pair of dipshidiots. I cannot imagine he has enough.... romantic skills to keep her interested. Blech.

Heck no, I hate reptiles! Cutting back on pot and games could definitely help him keep his pet but that'll never happen. It's like people who but BMWs and Porsches.. They want the expensive car but can't keep up with the maintenance.

Snakes don't cost that much for upkeep. We just bought frozen mice once a year and fed it one a week. We gave it away after SS stopped coming, though.

I thought they weren't that much upkeep. My sister has one that she got as a baby and has always fed it once a week. I've also heard you have to help them shed but really not ridiculous maintenance except the initial investment.

The python is breaking into the pot and gaming budget and they live on a shoestring, thanks to the Girhippo never providing proper parental guidance.  As you recall, the Gir told OSS that he was going to be a ROCK STAR for a living..I KID YOU NOT!! She was completely serious about instilling this pipe dream in OSS, therefore no need for grades, an attainable career aspiration or to learn a trade from. . . GASP!. . .CHEF!!!  She'd rather he die in poverty than learn anything from Chef.

I wonder what BM thought her kids were going to grow up to be. She told them school was dumb. OSD was doing well - or at least we thought - then suddenly didn't have a job and moved close to back home. MSD might have a job, I am pretty sure she just helps her convict boyfriend sell drugs. OSS is still in HS. Summer school every year. The school will make sure he graduates. They don't want drop outs on their roster!

If you have to help it shed typically that means there is an issue with your set up. Humidity is one of the biggest problems that people don’t take care of and can cause big problems. If we’re even 5 degrees low she struggles to shed right.

Most people who have one use tanks with screen lids. These lids make it near impossible to keep humidity in and normal rooms that we find comfortable don’t have enough. We constantly have to spray ours down and keep towels on the top to help keep it trapped in.

DH and I actually raise and breed ball pythons. They are extremely minimal upkeep compared to say a dog or cat. They honestly don't require much money at all to take care of but depending on what he has he could get the $300 for it if it is a desirable morph and/or a good size.

Also of you keep the humidity up in the tank or whatever you keep it in you don't have to help them shed at all.

Unless there is something special about the animal he’s not going to get 300. Yes they can be pricy when you live on a restricted budget. We have one and between the two lights, keeping clean bedding and a 5 dollar rat every week it does get a bit much compared to some other animals. If he’s thinking he’s going to get 300 then I’m going to guess his cost is a bit higher than ours. Larger rats mean more cost and I’m going to bet he’s not buying in bulk otherwise he wouldn’t have room in the freezer for anything else. If it’s big enough he may be feeding rabbits.

The bigger problem is the time. People don’t realize the effort. Yes it’s less than a cat but between keeping her home clean, checking temperatures and humidity, feeding, and the occasional bath it’s a lot more than people would think. And on the other end they don’t exactly do that much. Don’t get me wrong. We love ours but maybe get to handle her for 30 minutes a day because otherwise she gets cold. She’s not like a cat or dog who begs for attention. She likes to hide under her rock and that’s what makes her happy.

I cannot understand for the life of me why people who can’t even support themselves get pets. In fact there is a weird correlation:  more broke and messed up they are more pets they have. This guy doesn’t even have his own place to live yet he thinks it’s smart to buy pythons. Ridiculous
