PSA - Truist

PSA for all those in the southeast... stay away from the nightmare bank Truist.

If I do not have heart failure or get arrested when I visit my local branch tomorrow it will be a miracle.

I was with BB&T for years and loved them. I never had an issue when Truist to over but I did switch to 5/3 bank. They offered a huge sign up incentive ($250!) and I get paid a day early!

I LOVED BB&T. I used them for business banking and business insurance. You wouldn't believe the issues I have had! I have been trying to close the account for 2 months! (I am an accountant.)

I switched to Chase and got $200 (and a bank app that actually WORKS!).

Is not the norm.  We've been with Truist (formerly Suntrust) and their service has been great and we have had several complex issues, including closing an account.  No problems at all.

You are the first person I know of that is happy with them.

I know several individuals that left, as well as businesses.

Your experience is unique to you.  I know several indibpviduals and businesses who have switched to Truist.  See how that works?  Perhaps you have an issue with a particular branch.  Your PSA is biased.  It is unfortunate that you have had a bad experience that doesn't mean Truist is overall a bad bank.  I could quickly search google and find similar stories about PNC, Wells Fargo, etc.

Good luck!

The problems I have had do not relate to "just the local branch". I had problems at a different branch when as well I was out of state on vacation and my debit card quit working. And they tried aruging it was, until they realized that it wasn't. My temporary card they issued then also quit working. Same thing with the 2nd one they tried issuing. Fun times. There was no explanation,  they didn't know what was happening. But the branches were not the direct cause, it was the bank's issue. Apparently a lot of people were having the same issue. Everyone that had a card expiring the following month had the issue - and that info came from the call center that the branch employee called.

Glad I was vactioning in a location that HAD a branch. I can't imagine how awful it would have been if I was out of the region.

I had to withdraw a lot of cash from my account while out of state on vacation. I hate carrying a lot of cash, particularly when traveling (not a safe thing to do), not to mention the inconvenience - no pay at pump, no ordering online, etc.

In three weeks, they were unable to get me a new card. Thankfully, my new bank got me one two days after I opened an account. Which I did after a week and a half. In my opinion, surely they could have been able to deliver by then? Oh. But they did charge me the $30 expidite fee for "overnight delivery". None of the 3 replacement cards "they sent" ever arrived. I can maybe see one getting lost in the mail, but all three?

This isn't even the only issue I had.

I just found out,  due to another issue, their bill pay is managed by a third party - they don't even have access to the data (according to the person at a branch I spoke with today). For me, that's a big yikes. A payment I made, never made it to the payee, yet, the funds were taken from my account. Now it's an argument on who has to pay me those funds. The bank, or the third party. Also, this payment showed on my bankimg app. If the payment was visable there, but the bank doesn't have access to bill pay data, does that also mean the bank doesn't manage their app data? The branch employee couldn't (or wouldn't) answer that question.

To me, a telling sign of how good any business is directly relates to how they handle themselves when something goes wrong...

our banks on the east coast have no branches anywhere close to where we were moving on the west coast. We were between them and chase, but ultimately decided on WF and we love it.
