update on BS11

These last few days have absolutely been hellacious! Here's where we are now.....
Today he had an u/s to check if the kidney has gotten worse or not. It was the same, but it also showed gallstones. Yes, gallstones in an 11 y/o. We waited all freakin day for a surgeon to come in and tell us that they were too small to worry about, so no surgery unless they were obstructing the duct, which they are not. With that outta the way, the nephrologist said that he likely has reflux in the kidneys due to a congenital defect. That reflux apparently allowed bacteria into the kidney causing a staph infection there. Since it is extremely rare to have a staph infection in the kidney, they want to make sure that it doesnt spread into the rest of his body. He will have a VCUG or something like that early next week to determine if their suspicions of reflux are correct. If they are, the upper part of the right kidney (the defect) likely does not function, so it will have to be removed.
We are still here, and will be until he can keep food/water down. He's still on IV fluids, so until he can take water, he wont come off of them.
I'm exhausted, but thought I'd give an update! Thanks to everyone who has reached out to me to show your support and love, it has meant the absolute world to me!!!!!

It must be a relief to finally know what the problem is, even though there's more worry to come. I'm sorry for you and for your boy. You said "likely" so that must mean there is still hope for the kidney yet. I'll keep you both in my prayers.

Oh Sia...

As much as some of us have been through with our own health, it's so much worse when it's our child who's in need of medical help and healing.

My heart is with you and your family, and I am praying for the best possible outcome and a quick recovery for your son.
