I don't get it

Sherrylyn's picture

For the past 13 years both my husband and his ex have left the majority of the chlld rearing of their boys to me. I have been consistant in all of the rewards and punishments, what went for the older son would stand for the younger son.

Then this morning when my youngest son was being picked up by his girlfriends father with whom he works with, asks if hecan sleep overnight. His daughter has just turned 14 and my son is turning 17. I'm not comfortable with it, and her parents just don't even seem to see a problem with it. We all were younger, I know what 17 year old boys are like. SS17 knew I'd say no so he made sure my husband was the one who was asked, and he said sure.

This young thing will do anything to keep a boys attetion. Do I have to ask? Am I the only one who sees problems with this? Does anyone else hate when you get the line that they're the parent?

I'm good enough to go to parent teacher night, take the children to the docter and dentist, take the children to all their sport and after school events, and make sure they are on top of thier studies. Then when I say I don't think it's a good idea for an overnight stay I'm being unreasonable. And this isn't a once off, he's talking weekly.

You just want to throw your hands up and give up.

I haven't been in that situation yet, my daughter is only 5. But if I was you, I wouldn't either especially boy & girl situation. I would be asking them why a sleepover? Going out is fine but not a sleep over. Perhaps you should talk to your husband and ground some rules together. Hope this helps.

It does help that I know that I'm not totally being unreasonable. I thought we did have ground rules. I guess we still have more work to do.

So, the 17 year old and the 14 year old are boyfriend and girlfriend? If that's the case then no sleep over would be happening! No way!! First of all, at 14 she shouldn't even be dating, in my opinion.

I would put my foot down on that one for sure!!

I have made my feelings well known, and yet her parents ask if he could spend this upcomming long weekend with them at their cabin. I very nicely told them not to count on it.

After my husband made a point to me that it's funny that they don't go all out and invite all of us out for a day. But I guess the girlfriend does't push for that.
