first and foremose SD need to be checked for nits, if she has then the treatment needs to be done again

second strip beds and wash in hot hot water, pillows ect, there is also a spray you can use for your couch's and stuff.

if she is going back and forth between your house and BM if BM doesnt do any of this, SD will continue to return with lice over and over and over again.

my SD did this three times in 6 weeks, wonderful....

Sargent's flea powder, also kills lice, I put in all over my carpet, furniture, even mattresses and stuffed animals (stuffed animals went and lived bagged in garbage bags in the shed for a week with the stuff then I washed the ones I could the others went bye bye). Or get the RID, elimination pack she'll have to be retreated in a week and maybe several times 3-5 days apart till they're gone. All the nits have to be killed and picked out. Bedding, pillows etc hot water wash. If everything isn't cleaned it can spread. SO's dd had them for a year because BM sucked and just used oil and rubbing alcohol and the generic lice treatments, we treated right (well once I got involved and made SO buy RID over the crappy stuff)In the year we fought them no one in my home got lice, SO washed her bedding everyday, she wore a plastic cap at night and we picked and combed and picked and washed and cleaned and sprayed and powdered it was expensive and it was work. BM finally stepped up when a doc called cps on her for neglect after SO took her about the chronic lice and infected bug bite everywhere.

Get Tea Trea Oil use it on everyone asap!!!!! I use it in my and my kids shampoo at least 2-3 times a week. Im terrified of getting them and having kids around i know how easy it is to get them.
Also wash all stuffed animals, pillows and couch cusions. get the spray for everything else.
I also heard of using mayonaise on the child will suffocate lice and eggs.

My daughter got it from a girl in day care when she was 3. It was a nightmare!

My kids got lice about that age. I washed all the bedding and sprayed the beds and all the fabic furniture with the spray for lice. I washed my bedding in hot water with ammonia. Then after I treated their hair. I did the 7 day treatment again rather they needed it or not. I bought dog shampoo that was suppose to pervent lice and ticks and washed their hair every night in that. The sad thing is the cleaner their hair the more likely they are to get lice. Because the nit (or whatever their called) can not stick to oily hair. Black people that put oil in their hair are less likely to get them. I have also seen Mexicans put oil in their hair for that purpose. i don't know much about multi racial hair but she may benifit form hair oil in her hair.

Someone mentioned using fabric softener on their skids hair. I don't have any experience with this but I hope that person sees this post and can give you more details.

It's supposed to work and it doesn't have all those chemicals in it. My kid got lice once- THANK GOD we caught it in the very beginning but I'm a little OCD and it's so much work and stress. We did the RID but I didn't rely on it. I spent HOURS and checked EVERY strand of hair in her head. I used mayonaise with saran wrap for hours, washed it, blow dried it then went through each strand with a nit comb and alcohol. It worked.

Yeah I'm the one who said Fabric Softener, it was recommended to us, even for young kids by a doctor and mother of three at the Urgent Care. It finally did the trick and its also a great conditioner. Once a week use a cap full and let it sit there for ten minutes. Eggs can not stick to your scalp bc its mostly scented pig fat from my understanding. We yet to get re infested but my hair is so soft and smells great! Only went to the Urgent Care bc you don't want to use to much medicated shampoo on young kids. Still wash and dry fabrics and all as usual.

Oh.....if you don't want to use flea powder on your rugs and furniture, you can use 20 Mule Team Borax in it's place, which will have the same affect.

Also, remember to put all stuffed animals through the dryer for 30 minutes. Its not a big deal if you wash it first but I do anyways.

How long is her hair? How curly is it?

I have long straight hair. I had treatment resistant lice when I was 16. I didn't cut my hair. I used RID for twenty minutes every Saturday. Took 2 months to get rid of the little bastards. Absolutely miserable because I couldn't go anywhere for fear of spreading them. It took another 6 months to stop finding nits in my hair.
I got lice again when I was 18 (just after DH and I moved in together) thanks to my nasty SIL. Washed with RID, then sat down with a friend who cut my hair to shoulder length (first time I'd had it cut since I was 15...). She then took a fine tooth comb and a cup of veggie oil. She started on the left side of my hair and combed it in small sections all the way across. Any time she found a loose, she would knock it into the cup with the oil. She kept the comb pretty well saturated and my hair was an absolute grease fest afterward. She then had me scrub with RID again, then with Head and Shoulders. Whole process took an entire afternoon, but I was lice free afterward and my hair looked fantastic! lol

I'd recommend if she can't keep up with maintaining her hair that you give her two options: Cut it short or get it braided flat to her head.
