OMG.... I may have to kill my SIL!!

Dh has finally agreed to get SS on meds for ADHD. This is just the tip of the iceberg to his issues but it is a big start and will at least make life for his teachers much easier. Well, over the holiday MIL took SS up north to visit SIL. SIL's kid has a boat load of issues- he has sensory issues, crazy rage, no fear at all, ADHD and more- the kid is 4 and has to go to a special school because he can really hurt himself and others. So anyways, SIL calls DH to tell him that SS doesn't have any signs of ADHD, and why one earth would his teachers think that? :jawdrop: :jawdrop: :jawdrop: Of course compared to her kid SS seems normal on a sensory overloaded vacation with no rules and lots of kids to play with. But that is not his normal life! He is in trouble every freaking day!! He can't focus, he is impulsive like nothing else, he has anger issues just to name a few.

FML. Now he is questioning taking SS in. I am just saying over and over- His Kindergarten teacher, 1st grade teacher, reading specialist, math tutor, 2nd grade teacher, the special ed teacher that assists in 2nd grade class, counselor, and pediatrician can't all be wrong and SIL the only one right!! Give me a break here!! I need this kid calmed down a notch. The only reason that he is even going is that I finally blurted out that I take my anti anxiety meds because of SS. GRRRRRR....

Well I don't mean any offense here however yes they all can be wrong. We had the same problem with my SD but my SD later on ended up with a diagnosis of Aspergers. I have a brother and a husband who has ADHD yet kids around me are being diagnosed with ADHD but we don't see it in them. One test you can try, give him a can of pop and see what happens. If he becomes mellow with the caffeine being given to him, I'd bet that he does have ADHD. There are several diagnosis's out there and if there is bad parenting {not saying by you} in the picture, its hard to know for sure what he may or may not be dealing with.

Everyone thought SS needed ADD and ADHD meds years ago...We had him tested and he had it, but because BM was a pharmacist she was all about giving him drugs. DH fought it and he grew out of it....I think you can medicate them, but it is a slippery slope with these meds.

He may need them, but we were told you can't even put them on meds until at least the third or fourth grade. I am surprised they are medicating a 4 year old....
