What's so hard about taking a bath!

organolife34's picture

I was sitting on the couch burping my newborn when SS12 walks in. He plops down on the couch. His smell caused me to grit my teeth and do a hard Eyeroll. Smelling like straight butt. You could tell he did not bathe or use seoderant. Smelled like sweaty butt crack. I asked him to go jump in the shower. He said he will in the morning. I asked when was the last time he took a shower. He started laughing. He lives with us full time. We have a working shower, plenty f soap and deodorant for each boy no excuse.

DH said he will stay on him about showering. He is 12. Shouldn't have to be reminded to bathe. Im suprised know one at school said anything.

Same problem with SD11. I have to force her to shower. Her sister (SD14) has been on her as well, so it is slowly improving.

Is he interested in girls yet? Remind him that girls hate smelly boys.

You'd think it be a no-brainer. Unfortunately, H went through the same thing with his kid (D now 19) from 10-15. Don't even get me started on the tooth brushing.

She instead pretended she was from the Renaissance era and doused herself with perfume and powders every damn day.

So very gross.

Though walking by her and her room finally helped me understand the lyric "Smells like teen spirit."

So grim. Unfortunately it seems like a phase that most teenagers go through at some point. It's a way that they can exert their new-found independence. Believe me, once he starts to give a shit what girls (or boys) think when starts being interested in finding a parnter, he'll change his tune. For now it's a case of being a monkey on his back about personal hygiene. It sounds harsh, but the only thing that worked with my DH's ex (thank God) SD was to not have her dinner on the table until she'd had a shower. She dug her heels for 1 day, then she showered every day after that. She clearly thought we would back down, but we didn't. Low and behold she went to bed that night with no dinner, had a huge breakfast in the morning, then had a shower before lunchtime.
