How do I handle SD14

misschristina95's picture

She is becoming more and more selfish, and I've been trying to ignore it, because I don't want to get into with her, because I know BM will call BF and tell him how wrong I am, and then BF and I will get into it.
I bought her a playstation2 last year for her birthday. She will wake up and decide that SS10 can not use it. He will ask, and she will just say no. No reason, just because she wants to say no.
So she will be on the computer, after watching tv all night and SS10 will go to change the channel and she will throw the biggest fit saying that she is watching that. She can't have EVERYTHING! Its nine oclock at night, and its time for her to do the dishes. ss10 asks one more time, can i use the playstation? NO! She isn't even using it, she has not used it all day, now she is not even in the room and he still can't use it.
I'm going to take it away from her, see what it feels like for her to not be able to use it JUST BECAUSE. SS10 took some of his birthday money and bought a memory card this morning for playstation2 even though I told him that she can just take it away whenever she wants, he bought it anyway, and now he has not even been able to use it.

I warned BF today that I am going to start taking stuff away from her soon.

There is a rule in our house that if you're not playing with something, someone else may play with it as long as they respect that it belongs to the other person. We have been through the trouble of some kids not sharing with others, and that is how we solved it. If the one who owns it does not share, it gets taken away and no one else gets to play with it.

Also all game systems, stereos, computers, etc. are deemed family property. No one in particular owns it. So, they have to learn to take turns. If it gets to the point they are fighting about it, then it gets taken away.

I also have a husband who is willing to see that his kids have faults, as I see that mine do. We know no one is perfect in our house, and we know each kids' weaknesses and strengths. So having a DH who will back you up is very important. No one is a princess in our house.

Your right. I never thought about it that way. I guess that I see SS10 being so nice and giving and then SD14 won't even share some stupid game system with him.
