This is a Capitalist Economy Now

I have started running the household with a different philosophy the last month or so. My home is now a Capitalist household. You get what you put in. I have household laws (picking up after yourself, no running, blah..blah.) that most be followed. But, I have quit dealing with chores or making the kids clean their rooms. If the kids do keep the rooms reasonably clean I will go in and pick up a few things. If they do something extra (like clean the bathroom or pick up dog poop) I will reward them. If they do nothing then I do nothing. You have the power in your hands to make yourself something amazing or not. None of my children are under 8 anymore and I am tiered of doing everything for them or having to argue with them. I think they are all old enough to make choices and deal with consequences. That's what the real world is like. I figured it was time for them to realize that. For the most part this has been working really well. Some of them are working hard and reaping the benefits and a couple are doing nothing and dealing with the consequences. The biggest change is I am not as stressed out, I am not worrying about fixing everyone and everything all the time, and I have a little bit of free time to sit an breath!
