Will calling the police do me any good?

Medical Mom's picture

Last week I noticed an odd charge to our checking account. I was for 29.99 from some company in care of another company. I went to the bank and did an unauthorized paper draft, and then went home and called the companies customer service number. It turns out that who ever did this knows us because they used my DH's name and our checking account information to buy porn online!!!!! I went to the police and they asked me if we know who did it, and I told them no, but I have an idea who might have done it. We think that the ex and new boyfriend did it because they are the only ones that recieves checks from us other than my landlord and utility companies. The police said that it wont be for 2 weeks until they can get to it. What else can i do???

I would go to the bank and close that account and open another one. I would then only pay the ex with a money order. That's the only way to truly protect yourself from them doing that to you. My DH and I won't write checks to people like his family for that very reason. We either give them cash or a money order.
If they can prove it was her then you can press charges otherwise I dont' think there is really anything you can do.

Good Luck!

Some people are like slinkies...not really good for anything but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs! Smile

I would notify all three credit bureaus now, just in case, that you may have been a victim of identity theft.
