Where are you at Dawn?!

I'm starting to feel like I'm on a site for molecular jackets and cheap polos with Stepmom spam. I sift through pages of these links for one or two Step post...there was a volunteer the other day that asked to get rid of this, I hope her offer has been considered and this crap will be gone soon!

Echo,

We really do understand your frustration and we're sorry it's been such a pain. The problem is, with the way the current site is setup, we can't give users the ability to help moderate without given them more power on the site than they need to just moderate. Don't take this the wrong way, but we can't give complete strangers that much power on the site. We just can't afford the risk. In the past we've had moderators, but they were users that we know personally and knew we could trust with the power we gave them. Unfortunately those users have moved on and are no longer available to help.

We are, however, working on a brand new site that will allow more self-moderation, etc. Maybe even allow more senior members to have elevated site moderation ability. It's just taking a very long time to get the new site developed because we're both so busy these days. It's coming though.

Is Honey pot something I can do or is it something Dawn had to do? I looked it up but it seems like she would have to put it on the website. I'm the worst at tech stuff so I have no clue

Hi dtzyblnd.

We tried Honey Pot in the past (I know the author personally), but it didn't play well with some other software and protections we're using so I had to remove it.

It's been a long time, and many patches to Honey Pot and other software we use, so I've decided to try it again.

Honey Pot has been enabled on the site. Please report any issues posting blogs, forums, or comments to webmaster@steptalk.org.

Unfortunately even Honey Pot won't prevent all SPAM. Case-in-point: The Kansas City SPAMmer successfully posted SPAM even after I activated Honey Pot. Most likely because the SPAMmer is a human, which is the hardest to prevent.

I JUST saw that. I went to double check my spelling of "Moncler" from old blogs - gone! Yippee!!

There are a number of changes I'd like to see on this site: spam reduction, alerts that there's been a reply to a comment I posted, some type of notification that shows which comments are new (esp. for the forum, where the original post and comments are from 2013 and then the comments to the comments are two days old, but there's no quick way to find the most recent one).

I love this site. I don't post my own blogs very often because I'm a fairly sensitive gal and I'm not quite prepared to tune out the nasties who'd rather scold me than support me, but what I learn from the things I read, and knowing I'm not alone, has been a Godsend. If someone makes a new site and every flocks from this, please take me with you. Lol. I need you guys.

Much much more than I need a Moncler jacket.

THAT is the one thing I miss. Another handy thing was we could see a list of a specific username's posts.

Hey everyone! Due to my day job, and life, it's been way too long since I've spent any time on this site. Sorry about that.

I'll be posting my own blog entry regarding SPAM, advertisements, etc. very soon.

Have any of you ever had a post completely disappear? That happened once , it wasn't my post but it was a post something about religions, I had commented a few times clearing up some misconceptions about being Catholic, it was all very peachy and polite , then *poof* it was gone. I thought maybe because religion is such a sensitive subject?? :?
