Mermaids aren't real and ST fun

Lady.Tremaine's picture

I haven't posted in a bit. I think to myself I'm one of the lucky ones . I see posts all day of :

Stepkid steals

Stepkid lies

BM is a nut

BH is a nut

Etc etc

I'm lucky right now. But right now the issue is in my mind

I wish this wasn't taking up mind space but today I had a few chats with SD6

My mother ( who has never met the girls ) sent a bunch of these cute wood art projects . A few are mermaid wood cut outs

SD6: my mom saw a mermaid once !! Mermaids are real

DH: no she may have been trying to tell you ( manatee sailors etc)

SD6:. No mom said she swam with mermaids in real life

We dropped it but I do wonder. We ( DH and I) are quite grounded. While BM is suddenly into new age sh-- ... Stuff. Crystals etc.

She's going into first grade next week. While imagination is important I'm beginning to think our parenting differences will cause issue. We do try to read and do worksheets I've made here but is this kid doomed because her mother is getting batshii ?

From other posts SD6 missed a lot of school. Her older half brother is now a wreck. Didn't post on that but may in the future

Got into a lot of issues. I told DH to stop helping because it could cause legal issues with the girls.

. I wish I could tell her unicorns and mermaids exist but I don't think it will help.

And before someone chimes in "BM was just trying to help encourage her mindset of imagination"

Nope. BM is sort of living in a bizarre fantasy world herself. She's trying so hard to be a "beach " person that she's forgetting how to parent .

This kid is so behind already. We have her this weekend and I'm going to help DH pick out school supplies. But to earn choices on school supplies kiddo will need to do some worksheets. I want her to be happy but she may not be ready for the first grade.

I hope to never see BM in a mermaid outfit... Yikes

Though ironically we are in Florida ( thanks BM)

No offense, but people encourage kids to believe in Santa and the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy too, and we think it’s some precious childhood ritual.  This really isn’t that different.

HA! I would one up BM! Our aquarium here does have mermaids (well women who wear the mermaid tails and bikini tops and swim around). I would take her to see a REAL mermaid! LOL

God I would but I really don't want to encourage it. Maybe go see if there's a Ripley's with a fiji mermaid out here to horrify the child out of it ? ( Joking  . Dear God joking)

Just focus on what you and your H do with SD6 during your time and in your home. You can't control what BM tells this girl.....whether Mermaids, Unicorns, or Leprechauns exist she'll know the truth like all kids do. Keep working on her with the spreadsheets and try to get her up to speed for her grade level. It's a blessing that she at least as you and H to help her.

You only have SD a few days a month. There not much you can do school wise.  Most likely she will miss a lot of school because BM can not get up in the morning.

there’s really nothing you can do about it. Whatever BM says will stick harder in her mind and what you say as a stepmom. I know from experience.

BM told her own child at nine years old she doesn’t need to get good grades because she’s pretty and will most likely become a singer or an actress. Of course the kid believed her. Did horrible in school until 10th grade when she finally understood prettiness doesn’t do shit for you.

Starting in 11th grade told her to start meditating to a certain sector of aliens because they’re going to come and take over the world and only the ones that were meditating to them will help rule the world. Yes, stepdaughter fell for it.

And stepdaughter lives with us full-time as being lost custody. So just those few phone calls were so powerful in comparison to living with a step mom and dad full-time.

I wish there were something you could do to counteract it, but at the end of the day, there really is not.

Mermaids, looks over brains and aliens are real! *ROFL* *sigh*
