2 F's but average has improved.

Drac0's picture

English Language Arts: 76% (about the same as last term)
Foreign Language (French): 66% (about the same as last term)
Science: 53% (dropped significantly)
Mathematics: 57% (dropped significantly)
History: 79% (improved significantly)
Drama: 73% (about the same as last term)
Physical Education: 86% (about the same as last term)
Social Studies: 70% (improved significantly)

DW still has to weigh in on this (I texted her the results).

The Bad: Last semester, SS had one failure. This time, instead of one fail, SS has netted TWO failures.

The good: His overall average has gone up. From a C to a C+.

So STalk. If this was your kid, what would be your recommendations?

I am 100% in agreement there. In fact, I plan on heading to the hardware store after work to by plates to cover all the GFI outlets in his room.

Yeah BUT (and I can't believe I am saying this) he did IMPROVE 2 of his grades significantly. I think there needs to be some type of medium here.. not just flat out punishment for the dropped grades. I think of any kid I have seen here, THIS is one that NEEDS encouragement, needs a dang bone on the extremely off chance that he does something GOOD

Social studies went from a 38% to a 70%.

So yeah, that kind of jump is huge, and I am happy about that.

38% was a clear sign that he was just not doing the work AND that he was fooling around in class and being disruptive.

For Math and Science, he is doing "some" work, but clearly not enough....I kept telling this to DW over and over again. The kid should be studying about an hour and a half each day. SS barely manages 20 minutes. Force him to study beyond that and the waterworks start....

If he were mine there would be no electronics, no friends, no outings, nothing until I saw his grades improving. He is 15, so what is he a freshman/sophomore in high school, this is serious. Not that it's ever not serious but he could not graduate with these grades and you can forget scholarships!

I wouldn't fucking cry if this was my kids report card.
Like I would seriously, bow my head down and CRY.
This is really, really sad. Electronics need to be dropped in a tub full of water. Like NOW.

so two core subjects had lots of improvement and two core subjects dropped dramatically....
he CAN do better in science and math, he did so last term. and he CAN do better in history and soc.studies, he showed you that this term. so he's choosing to be lazy. but that's not a surprise to you! Wink

i'd say yeah, no electronics AND i'd put his ass on permanent study duty at least until the progress rpt comes out.

How did the kid manage to get a C plus average? In my district this kid just received 3-F, 1-D, 2-D plus, 1-C and 1-B.

So kid brings two classes up, only to crash two new classes lower. I see your wife being torn on this. If she nails him on the drops (the two new lowered class grades) it takes away from his actual improvement on the two raises of progress in two different classes. She is also jump on the C average going to a C-plus (how in the hell it did that is beyond me). My bet is she will plead his case as 'but Draco, we can't punish him, we'll discourage him from trying this hard again'

Just curious. The project he was to do and instead played hooky from his father's and laid around in bed all day playing games. Was this one of the classes with a new drop in grade? If so, remind DW of that incident .

Funny you should ask that as this was the first thing I looked for (it was drama class) and his marks are about the same. The teacher afforded the group a little extra time to work on their presentation while the other groups (the ones who were ready) made theirs. So it would appear that SS dodged the bullet on that one.

In science, SS started buttering up DW already saying "the teacher doesn't like me" and that usual bullcrap. Okay then, what about Math? The teacher has a good rapport with SS, so what is his excuse going to be there?

He was with us the weekend before the math exam. Instead of studying like he should have been, he was playing and when DW and I told him to get off the PS3 and study, he started crying....I told him then, "Don't cry now, cry when your report card comes...."

Cant wait to see what DW says.

At first she will be mad, but she will get over it and she is going to get mad at you for being mean to SS.

LOL!

I bet he could get an A++ in Drama if you told him Nutella is going out of business...
