Anyone else think this is suspicious?

SD2 has been sickly since she was born. Not like small and weak, but physically ill on a ridiculously regular basis. She always had a cold or the flu the first two years of her life. She had allergies up the wazoo and asthma.

Then BM tried to commit suicide and got sent to the loony bin. BM's mother, GBM, started taking care of SD full time and BM was pretty much absent until 3 weeks ago when she found out she was pregnant, went off her meds, and moved back in with GBM.

SD wasn't sick at all while BM was gone. Not even the sniffles. She had no asthma attacks, no allergic reactions... she was healthy and NORMAL. Her speech and potty training jumped by leaps and bounds. She stopped being a destructive little tyrant and settled into being a sweet little girl.

Since BM came back she's had strep throat one week and croup the next. She had an asthma attack for the first time in months. She wasn't talking nearly as much at the last visit.

I've always suspected BM had Munchhausen's. She fakes injuries/ illnesses for attention, I've heard stories about it and seen it with my own eyes. Could she be making SD sick for attention too??

I've thought about it. We're on decent terms, I'd just hate to point it out. She knows BM need some SERIOUS help, but I don't think she could wrap her mind around her daughter wanting to hurt SD for attention.

SD literally was sick so often that we would call to find out how she was doing every week and it sounded like a medical chart being read off. "She went to the doctor and has a double ear infection, sinus infection, upper respiratory infection, and an eye infection. She's also off the charts for weight and height."

get her away from those kids...SERIOUSLY!!!..someone has to save her......the BM is out of her mind and no one can help her but you dont want you SK growing up thinking thats how things are. Most children become a product of their environment, call CPS, get someone involved..seriously!!

My thing is how do I PROVE she is causing it? HOW do you give a child strep throat or a cold intentionally?? SD has been so sick so often that she had to have surgery last year to remove her adenoids and put tubes in her ears. I don't want to burn bridges by seeming to "pick on" BM. I'm sure you all know what I mean.

No, that was THE reason that SD had surgery. She has had constant ear infections and respiratory infections. I know that some children have those surgeries for other reasons, but they were hoping it would help keep her from getting sick so often. She got sick a week after she got out of the hospital.

Does she take the baby to a different Doctor every time? Because any doctor with half a brain would have done something if the same kid goes to the same doctor constantly.

Same pediatrician every time. I've always thought it was odd he hadn't picked up on it and that's why I've kept my mouth shut.

First, what is the girls environment? Could she be in a location with mold, etc? Or too little humidity in the air? I would start there first. Even her diet when she is with her mother.

Munchhausen's is very hard to prove, but you stated that she made up illnesses for attention, does bm see a dr for these occurrences? That is the key. They seek medical attention from professionals, like a drug addict goes to the hospital continually for pain medication. They generally have a trail of dr.'s. It is the sympathy from medical personnel that drives them more than from other people.

Munchhausen's by proxy is when they deliberately make their children ill, but the key is when the child is only ill in their presence. In fact the child can be programmed into believing they are sick. Also, this is very hard to prove. In most cases of by proxy, the illnesses they think up are generally quite serious or perceived to be life threatening. What does the lab work say? strep is pretty defined by blood work.

I would definitely watch her, and female intuition is a very good thing. To my knowledge, the main component in this disease is dr visits. I don't think there is anything you can do personally, other than have your dh speak to the dr. If she is only sick with bm, there is something going on there, or she is not getting the best care in her home.

The mother has a pyschosomatic disorder, not sure which one in particular offhand. She does not have the morbid munchies, Maunchasuen's. The daughter is reacting to the physical environment through her bronchial and digestive systems. The mother is neglectful. The daughter is broadcasting her need for help.
