O/T: Having some serious issues with Aunt Flow

flipingout_6's picture

Alright ladies, this is kind if icky and may be tmi.
I have been in my period for 26 mofing days, with no sign if slowing. I dont know wtf is going on but im going nuts. I have a doc appointment in three weeks but was wondering if anyone else has had similar issues.

Im 26, my mom didnt start perimenapause tell late 30s early 40s. Ivr had a normal cycle tell about three months ago, but now its just insanse. Not only is it lasting forever but its no where near light. Im talking going through a tampon and a pad every hour. Its like my utwrus is trying to escape. Ive had to up my iron intake to try to combat the tiredness from the damn blood loss.

Anybody dealt with something similar? This is driving me nuts, not to mention all I can think about is the fact that I may have cervical cancer ot another serious lady part issue.

Unfortunately my insurance is awful. Ive made calls to both the er and urgent cares, they told me that as long as im not fainting and dont have a fever to wait for my doc apppointment.

Im going to try calling the gyn clinic I have my appointment at, they already know my cycle has been long and heavy but I can get a little graphic with them amd let them know the extent if the blood loss.

From talking with my mom, I assumed that this is odd, but not that bad. Getting a diffierent prespective kind makes me rethink how serious this may be.

Have you been on any steroids? I had some oral steroid by prescription when I was about your age and it screwed stuff up. It eventually worked itself out. But you are right to see the doctor. This is the kind of thing that you must have checked out to be sure.

Have you told the doctor's office about how long this is going on? They might be able to get you in faster.

No, the only diffierences is that I havent been on bc for about 8 months. Before that I had been on since 13.

One of the first things I did was pee on a stick, to make sure that wasnt going on.

This is the second long period, the cycle before this was longer than my norm, and heavier but wasnt this bad.

Ill call the doc again, they aren my pcp because frankly I dont have a PCP. I live in a state where additional funding to cover low income indiviuals for insurance purposes wasnt covered. I have insurance through my scho and it isnt stellar. I spent hours on the phone simplu finding a gyn office that would see me with the correct insurance coding so I wouldnt have to pay 500 out of pocket right off the bat.

Call your doctor's office and let them know what's going on. They should be able to get you in today or tomorrow.

Absolutely get to see your doctor right away!! That's way too much blood loss!

I had extended bleeding with my period at times, and the last time I had it, the doctor gave me progesterone to stop the bleeding. It worked for me, but I also wasn't bleeding to the extent you were. Seriously, you need to be seen urgently. You should never go through that many tampons for more than a couple of days!

Thank you ladies. Im not going to lie, I didnt think this was too big of an issue, apparently it is. My mom told me it was no big deal and the docs I spoke with said this was no big deal. Apparently I need to advocate for myself a bit more and empjasize the amint of blood loss.

Also sorry for the typos, im on my phone.

Hey ladies, after having you all tell me that this is not acceptable, I called a couple clinics around here and found one that could get me in next week. After telling them about my insurance she also offered to code it as preventative rather than a problem visit.
I was hesitant to make an appointment with them becuase we have a lovely (sarcasm) group of protestors who like to hang out around there. Fu@k em I need to get seen.

I was just getting ready to suggest you go there - so glad you already made the call. If you can get a friend to go with you that will make it easier. If not, there should be an escort who can meet you and walk with you inside. As hard as it is, don't engage, just ignore the protester.

And the next time some idiot wants to remove their funding - remind them this is the kind of care they provide 97% of the time.

I have the biggest crush on notsure right now Smile

Ah - you guys are making me blush! My donations also go there as well as to an animal charity. I like the idea of finding one that pays for veterinary care.

My mom went through about a year of heavy constant bleeding, so for her two fed up cycles is no big deal.
If I still had decent insurance you bet you a$$ id be up the docs butt. Because of this new crapolla I have I basically have no leverage. The clinics that I had called prior to this essentially acted as if they were doing me a favor just for not billing a "contact/establishing care " visit.

It may be fibroids or your bodies hormones.

I know how you feel. My periods have became so bad that it has lead to severe iron-deficient anemia. I usually have about 7-8 days of heavy periods a month with a couple of days of light.

The complications are that I had to get blood transfusions about 1-2 times a year. Now I have a great hemotologist who puts me on iron infusion treatments. They are great but really expensive, about $2600 per round of treatments at about 3-4 rounds a year. But it is better then the only thing that puts up those iron levels to functioning levels.

It is hell. I do have to agree with your doc though. It is only when your hemoglobin gets low that they will give you a transfusion or infusion. The symptoms for low hemo I have found a fuzzy thinking, extreme lethargy, and a feeling that I am going to pass out. I once got so low that I nearly passed out walking and was seeing double. Turns out I was pregnant and my hemoglobin was a 3. I was in the hospital for 3 days being pumped with blood and iron.

When I was on the Mirena for the specific purpose of minimizing periods, I had a heavy flow for about 28 days straight. It was bad, and my feratin levels tanked.

If it gets to bad, like another poster suggested, they could give you progesterone or maybe Lupron. But I will tell you that the hormones are terrible and make you gain pounds like crazy.

I went through the same thing, once. My Dr. prescribed Megestrol for 30 days. Things were back to normal within a week of starting the prescription Smile
