Beginneth the Great Math Marks Mystery (Part I)

Drac0's picture

SS has a math quiz every week. I keep asking him “How did you do? What mark did you get?”.

For the last month SS’s answer is always “I dunno” or “I am not sure. I think I did okay.”

I had enough and said that unless I see results by the weekend, I am calling the school. Weekend came and went. Still no results.

Meanwhile, DW and Donkeykong are still in “talks” over tutoring.

Quick math quiz: How much Milk does SS need to make 1 cup of hot chocolate?

So DW and Donkeykong can’t come to an agreement on getting a tutor for SS. They haven’t been fighting, but their email exchange over the matter has dragged on for two weeks now.

Two. Weeks.

During these two weeks, I’ve been silent. I decided to not say anything and just let DW and her ex work it out. Which I suppose is the right (and only) thing I can do. Except neither DW nor Donkeykong seem to have any interest in resolving this any time soon. I mean, why bother with emails at this point? Why not just send each other smoke signals? It will probably go faster…

March Madness

Where does the time go?

Sorry for being absent but I have a lot going on in my life at the moment. For starters, my department is currently being audited. No, nobody is in trouble or anything, but I swear you would find more cheer in a graveyard. The guy doing the audit has the sense of humour of a Vulcan. Whenever I pinpoint him to documents he is looking for, he doesn't even give me anything that remotely smells like gratitude.

Boots?

Some people think I am a mean and vicious SOB for the things I say about SS. There’s a few people who think I am making this sh*t up. I guess what I am about to write here falls in the latter category.

A while ago, I wrote that SS routinely forgets to wear his boots. It’s cold outside. I mean REALLY cold. 0 degrees F cold. You know when the oil in your car becomes the consistency of jelly, it’s COLD.

SS wears his boots to school, but then he returns with his sneakers.

He does this constantly!

Valentine's Day gifts to your teenage children?

I was all geared up for what was going to be a glorious Valentine’s Day weekend. I bought some flowers, chocolate, a sirloin roast and DW’s favorite bottle of red wine. It’s a long weekend for SS, which meant he was at his Dad’s for 3 days. My parents offered to babysit BS and BD so I was really looking forward to Friday night!

The Chicken Breast Delimma

Do you lie to your SO on matters concerning your SS?

I always prefer being up front and honest with my DW, but when it comes to her son, I sometimes think it is better to lie and avoid the tear-fest that will most likely follow.

Case in point; the other day DW and I decided to just get some chicken dinners from our favorite BBQ chicken restaurant. All the kids love the meals there, so it is usually a hit.

Usually I get two chicken breast dinners (for me and DW) and three chicken nugget dinners (for SS, BS and BD).

My jeans are too tight

SS is a major grumpass in the mornings. I don’t really care because I don’t deal with him. DW has to scream at him to get up. Then when he does decide to get up, he whines for DW to pick his clothes out of his dresser. Why SS is not able to do this himself is beyond me but remember we are talking about a teenager who still tries to get his mother to butter his toast. DW will pick his clothes (again, I don’t know why she enables him but that is the subject of another discussion) but then SS will whine about his jeans being too tight.

Boiled iPad Anyone?

SS has two art projects due by the end of the week. He had 6 in total. He’s done 4, but now he has two left to do and time is running short. We even got an email from his art teacher politely reminding us of this and that she is available at lunch hour and after school if SS needs help.

Immediately after supper last night (of which he only ate ¾ of it; but I suppose that is normal for him) he asked to be excused so he can continue to work on his art projects. We allowed him and he went into his room and closed the door.

I was immediately suspicious.

To summarize last night's argument...

Okay DW.

To summarize last night’s argument, when we agreed that SS was to be punished, I understood that meant until the next report card comes (which is end of February). Until then SS is not allowed to go over to friend’s houses or hang out with friends after school, he is not allowed to play video games and he is to go to bed a half-hour early. Oh and no snacks. SS’s next report card would be his only reprieve. Until then, SS is grounded.
