Update on SS9

The doctors are working are figuring out what is going on with SS. They ordered a lot of testing last week, and gave him a prescription today. He's been doing better at school since the court hearing.

At the first appointment DH gave them the reports from SS's school file. They gave DH a lot of paper work for his teachers to fill out and some for DH and SS to fill out. They had us start him on a daily dose of fish oil.

I don't know a lot of the details of today's appointment to get the results of the testing. DH is terrible at relaying info so I'll have to wait until tonight to get the full story. The doctor said he doesn't think it's autism, but he knows it's not ADHD. He said he has ODD with extreme anxiety and low self esteem. Most likely due to the childhood trauma. They prescribed Vyvanse. Check up in a month to see how it is working. If anyone has any experience with it I'd like to hear about it.

The doctors office called me shorty after DH left and said that the had forgot to tell him that SS has a vitamin D deficiency and needs to take 5000 units a day until further notice. So he was up to 4 pills a day in a weeks time...

I ended up finding a gummy prenatal vitamin that included fish oil, but not iron. The doctor said it would be fine, and would make it only 2 pills and some gummies a day. SS's face when I showed him the vitamins was hilarious. He said, "I'm not a pregnant woman!". Biggrin

DH is taking him to the court ordered psych evaluation this afternoon. Hopefully they get everything figured out soon.

Sd18 was put on vyvanse. Before Vyvanse she was an all D student and a real B if you catch my drift. Sometimes she was a lesbian. Sometimes she was straight. Sometimes she was trans. She was all over the place with everything in her life. Post vyvanse she is just a lesbian and a good student and I like her pretty much most of the time now. It really did wonders for her almost immediately. It did make her lose weight and she was already skinny. She never feels like eating

One of SS's issues is obsessive eating. They said one of the reasons they choose Vyvanse was because the medication is also used for Binge Eating Disorder in adults. We're a little worried. BM had him on Metadate CD because she had him diagnosed as ADHD. (on purpose) Which he is not. He had horrible side effects when he was taking the medication. Nose bleeds in the middle of the night and terrible stomach cramps. He's been off meds for 2 and a half years. DH was apprehensive about putting him back on drugs to control it the out bursts he's having at school. Especially because we are having no issues with him at all at home.
