Do you have a favorite dinner?

Gunner's picture

My wife complemented me when we were out with friends on cooking dinner but she said I am repetitive with my meals. Would you like to help a father out and post what you like to make? I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

anything in a foil package, in the oven, tastes pretty darn good.

Last week I made: Chicken in Foil with asparagus and red potatoes. I added some wild rice made with a bit of butter and herbs and it was divine!! and am a lousy cook lol

Tonight I am making some Salmon on a skillet(stove top) with a garlic/Butter/Honey sauce over it, with a Greek salad and rice on the side, with homemade Greek Salad dressing. Got the recipes off pintrests. Hope it tastes good.

I've made a Green Chicken Pozole that my SO LOVES. But its too hot for soup today.

I know right, mine will turn over a steak on the grill...but that is about the sum total of his cooking ability...LOL

Seriously, BF will make me quesadillas sometimes...But I guess I can't complain he does most of the house chores. I hate chores.

I love making fajitas with anything, Chicken, shrimp, steak.

Grilled salmon salad

My take on a shrimp boil done in foil in either the oven or on the grill

Chicken stew is another one of our favorites

Goulash made with ground turkey

If she's not happy with the menu, she can freaking cook a few meals herself. By the way, every family has about 12 basic meals they fall back on. But seriously, if my DH ever uttered her words, my days in the kitchen would be so over. You married one entitled spoiled brat. I hope the sex is worth it.

And tonight we had blueberry pancakes with sausage. Breakfast for dinner is a favorite around here.

I have said to my DH that I love this dish, that dish, this dish etc of the 8 or so that he makes but I have asked for a little more variety sometimes. He would oven bake chicken every single day of the week if given the chance and I need a little more variety than that.

He has flat out said he doesn't like certain things I make, usually by saying "To be honest, it wasn't my favorite". He downright dislikes turkey and I have learned not to make it much, for instance. He also has not found a meatloaf he likes, but the majority of what I make he does like.

I would never think there is anything wrong with that. Do you really think that is wrong of us to express to each other?

ntm's picture

She said it to FRIENDS. That's not expressing it to each other; it's being passive aggressive.

now I'm taking Mrs Gunner's side.....

I o not think she meant anything by it.... I think it was simply a conversation talking about husbands making food, this other woman probably said her's is not cooking at all, and Mrs G replied - Gunner does good but not allot....

I do exactly the same lol... but the only difference is.. SO laughs about it and I will joke about it,
I've said before in a huge group - SO only makes one dish and you need allot of ketchup to eat it... and he's a master behind the BBQ (okay all Martian men can do this)
Then one lady said... be happy at least he does one dish... mine does nothing....

we all laughed and joked about it, one lady said hers is so useless he can't even BBQ, he burns it thus she took over...
The g laughed and said - it's interfering with his talking and drinking time and he got her to do all the cooking like a woman should.

I think with everything going on - Gunner is asking females to help him surprising his wife, I do not get the feeling that his feefees got hurt or anything... or that it was meant ugly in any way and form from his wife

OMG, I made shrimp alfredo yesterday with the same roasted garlic alfredo sauce. That was my first time making it and it was soooo damn good. I think it will be my new go to summer meal.

Rencently the fav has been either chicken pizza or chicken alfredo with bacon and roasted tomoatos. Super good and easy.

We eat mostly chicken for meat..so i try to cook it with different seasonings or different ways so i do not get bored.

Cilantro Lime Chicken Tacos

Boneless skinless chicken breast in a crockpot, cover with a jar of salsa (mild, medium or hot depending on your preference), sprinkle lime juice liberally and add fresh chopped cilantro to taste. Add 2 taco seasoning packets to the mix, cook on low for 8 hours. Shred chicken if it's at all still solid (usually it isn't) and serve on tortillas with avocado, sour cream, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes etc. The family loves these, they are juicy and flavorful, but super easy to make.

Sorry Gunner, but your wife is an entitled, spoiled ass. A backhanded compliment is not a complement. She didn't thank or praise you for cooking dinner, she bitched (in a nice way) about the meals you prepare.

I say toss this chick out and find a woman who will appreciate what you do for her.

Gunner - google cheap fast recipes..... that's how I wing it cause I do not like having the same meal in a month. I'm like your wife lol...... but I promise you I'm much nicer and I have no debt, but I can't stand skids Wink

Now you can tell your wife, you've heard of a lady who's SO can only make ground beef and spaghetti - I can't even try and call it bolognise... Oh and recently he learned how to do chicken in the oven... thus my SO can only make 2 dishes... and every time he tells me he will make me dinner, I pretend to like it lol...

We had Jerk Chicken with carrots and rice last night. My husband cooked it.

Tonight we will have a grilled shrimp Caesar salad. (I actually cook them on the stove top.. not always on the grill). If it's just you two, a bag salad kit is as easy as anything.

Burgers on the grill are good.

Basically grilled "anything".. steaks, chicken, pork chops, seafood skewers, fish. We will slice squash and season in a foil package with a bit of butter and throw on the grill too.

We have also been making a quick zucchini noodle spaghetti with ground turkey.

Quick street style tacos with the leftover grilled meats are good too. You only really need some corn tortillas warmed up in a pan with a bit of oil and then add the meat and fresh veg fixins.

Easy Side dishes

Salads, roast vegetables, baked sweet potatoes, steamed rice (get a steamer, not expensive and idiot proof), mashed potatoes, scampi style asparagus.

It's hot here, so really heavy pastas and soups and stews aren't what I'm craving right now, but a bowl of thick, rich soup with crusty bread and a side salad is a great dinner.

I cook a ton. One. Of my favorites is Greek chicken skewers with tabbouleh...I'll pm you the links.

Also, I got Blue Apron gift certificates from DHs parents as a Christmas gift. I thought it would be corny and I'd hate it since I'm already a great cook...but I've loved it. Maybe check it out or a similar service. They have meals for two and four, but I've found the meals for two make way too much...we usually have leftovers if it's just the two of us and there's plenty if we have SD with us. One night SD had a friend, so we made two of the meals and did a sampling, which was fun.

We've also put the kids in charge on these blue aprons....directions are super easy and it's a great way for them to learn some simple kitchen skills.

My favorite thing about it is that it did get me out if my recipe rut quite effectively. Again...I cook a whole bunch and know lots of interesting veggies and grains...and I've gotten ingredients I've never heard of. Like...dud you know that there are actually pink lemons? They're lemons that have a yellow rind with faint pink streaks...and when you cut them open the flesh is pink. I can't believe I never knew this!

The only thing I'd say is, if you do sign up, remember to go in and skip weeks when you're gone and also set your meals. If you don't, they send you the default meals which are always all three vegetarian meals. Usually I'll do one vegetarian meal and two meat meals. This week, I'm getting a seared flank steak, some kind of shrimp fusili pasta, and grilled veggie sandwiches, for example.

These are some of my favorite recipes that DH and skids go crazy for:

Chicken Tikka Masala – I HIGHLY SUGGEST taking the extra time to marinate the chicken in greek yogurt (I use Noosa Coconut Greek yogurt) and cooking the onions with the spices. It truly enhances the flavors a lot

Chicken & Dumplings – I found 2 containers of biscuit to be too much biscuit personally, I only use 1-1.5

Lemon Chicken Spaghetti Squash –
