Do you feel like your skids are as much siblings to your bio kids as your bio kids are to each other? For instance, you and your spouse have three bios together. Do you feel like they are closer and more true siblings than they are with the steps? Do you try to foster a relationship with the steps or do you foster more of a relationship between your bios, and why?

I dont have any BIO's but I have two SD's with two differnet BM's so they are still only half siblings with my DH in common. They both have half siblings with their BM's as well. For SD14 I know she is more bonded to her half siblings from BM....but she is also very bonded to SD5....just not as much. SD5 has twin baby half bro's via BM that she seems to be as equally in love with as she is with her half big sis SD14. Age is a factor here I think. How old they are when siblings are introducted and if they have been able to bond naturally from a young age factor in.

My skids and bios are brothers and sisters, period. That's how they have chosen to refer to each other, and we encourage that. However, my skids step-sisters from BM's new husband are referred to as step-sisters. Granted, they only see those kids every other weekend, and my kids and skids live together full time.

This is a good point! I could see how the naming convention can be different if the dynamics are a little different.

There is 22 and 24 years between my bios and H's adult steps so there is no bond between them at all.

With this great an age difference I don't see them ever being very close since they are at very differant stages in their lives.

Also, all of the discord and chaos that my bios have seen the adult steps create has seemed to permanantly end any chance of my bios wanting a relationship with these volatile older people! Adults just aren't supposed to act that way!

Plus adult steps have finally verbalized what has been obvious for so long - they hate me. My bios do not take kindly to that and I doubt that the adult steps will ever be able to overcome their stupidity in verbalizing this fact so vocally!
