UGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats really all I can say right now. I'm sure every single person on this site can relate to that feeling! MIL already asking for us to come visit this summer...everyone in the family. Thats really only 9-10 people...but thats 9-10 people in a small 3 bedroom house, for AN ENTIRE WEEK. WTH. So far away yet too damn soon! I hate being away from my own house...in an uncomfortable bed...in a noisy crazy house...with my baby...in a podunk town with literally NOTHING to do besides go to Walmart. Sounds great!

What about just saying you don't want to visit? What would happen? Would your DH be mad? Or, what about getting a hotel room so that you can visit & then get away to your own space? Just a thought. Either way, remember that you have the choice to go or not go.

teehee...I wish there was a hotel! There are none within 40 miles...Thats how small of a town it is. I feel like I have to because they all want to see the baby, and I could bare to just let me DH take him because then I wouldn't see him for an entire week!! Nothing in particular happens...its just extremely boring, crowded & stressful...packing & living out of suitcases for a week with a baby & a 5 yr old...14 hr drive...just plain miserable. But I love his grandparents.

That seems to me way too crowded. Maybe you can ask your mil if y'all can come a different weekend, therefore your visit can be more comfortable for everyone....

Dreading things this early is a sign...

That was the first thing we said...everyone at the same time is too crowded. She said but I want everyone here for DH's grandpa's 80th birthday...ugh..I wish his grandparents lived here and MIL & SS can stay where they're at!

I did that over Christmas this year. Although, instead of a podunk town, it was a horribly overcrowded town that took 45 minutes to fight through the traffic to GET to WalMart.

Yep, 9 people (6 adults age 33-75, 1 20yo, 1 18yo and 1 12yo) in a small house for a week is HELL! By the end of it, even MIL was saying never again!

I really wanted to get a hotel room, but having SD along meant either no alone time for DH and I or getting two rooms, and DH didn't want to dump SD on MIL - so we stayed. We spent a lot of time hiding out in our room.

Next year, we're hopping a plane (and paying for MIL's ticket) to go spend a holiday with DH's favorite sister - no kids and some pleasant adult time.

Sorry I've got nothing really constructive to add - you do have my utmost sympathy.

you only went to a couple days...Not the whole week..14 hrs is a long drive to just stay a couple days, but a week in a small house and small town? 14 hour drive to get back HOME after a couple days doesnt sound that bad....

I wish! Here's how it usually works, for the past 3 years at least. We go there for Thanksgiving (which only ends up being 2 days of actually being there which is FINE by me!) and SS comes here for 7-10 days in the summer. This year, instead of Thanksgiving, my DH says we should go in the summer to make his mom happy, we'll be there for his grandpa's 80th bday and we will get to visit for longer than 2 days which is what his grandparents hate (we are both very close to them and they are the ONLY reason I am considering this!). He said if we go there for a week then we won't have to pay to fly out SS, so apparently he'd rather it just be 1 visit this year by combining SS's summer visit & our Thanksgiving visit. Which is fine, saves money, but it means I have to be cramped into someone else's house for an entire week with nothing to do Sad Plus, I'm afraid that if we go in summer, MIL will still try to talk us into going there for Thanksgiving...and then I'd be totally ticked off! But it surprises me that 1) DH is fine with only seeing SS for 1 week for the entire year and 2) he is willing to go there for a week knowing how bitchy & miserable I am the whole time!
