Message on my machine from ss9....

justwantpeace's picture

I checked all my voice mail messages the other night and I received the sweetest message from ss9 that made me cry like a little girl. He said, " Hi justwantpeace, I love you. This is ss9. I just wanted to call and talk to you. I love you and miss you." They have never called just to talk to ME. I get to talk to them when DH has called them, but to just call for me, that was the perfect end to a crappy day. My heart just melted. My ss's truly do love me. So I called back and BM's machine picked up, so I left a message. "Hey ss9, this is justwantpeace. I just got your message and I love you too, I miss you and can't wait to talk to you!!! I love you. ss11 I love you too, Miss you." I am sure that ruined BM's day and needeless to say, I don't believe ss's received my message, they have yet to call back. I think I may start calling and leaving messages a little more often. Wink

That is so nice...good for you!

Im sure that they didnt receive it, but next time you can tell them in person
Although your ss are young, in time Im sure they will have cell phones which will open up a direct line of communication.

Good for YOU, sometimes these kids let the love in.

have cell phones and they called us all the time and we called them. Then BM had them shut off. Guess she couldn't stand hearing them tell me and DH how much they loved us and wished they could be with us. I have been with these boys since they were 21 months and 6 months. I have never tried to be mom, I am learning that they want me to be though. Lots of love from them.

Making the decision to have a child is momentous~ It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside of your body~

You've been with them since they were babies, they are very lucky to have you. they dont know a life without you, I understand that you never tried to be their MOm. but you are certainly their Stepmom and that is a position in the family that is just as important. So stepmom or mom, they go to you for love and guidance.
I met my stepson when he was 9 years old and I see baby pictures of him and wish Iknown him alot earlier.
You lucky that you connected withthem so young.

98percent of the time its the BM who is the trouble maker and that is sad that she is trying to control communication'
But good for you and your skids

Isn't so reassuring to know that the skids can care about you just as much as you care about them? I'm glad your SS's value having you in their life and remind you that they love you. If possible, save that message so you can hear it on really crappy days when life is handing you cannon balls.

JWP,

I became Sdad to my Skid, now 16, when he was 15mos old. Though I have no other experience to base my opinion on it appears that the Skid/Sparent relationships progress more smoothly the younger the Skid is when it starts.

Don't get me wrong. We have had out challenges as SS has grown up but probably not significantly worse than the the normal teen years. The issues have come with the interface with BioDad and his family more than from direct issues Sparent/Skid issues between my son and I.

You indicate that you have never tried and are not your SS's mother. I respectfully submit that in that perspective you are wrong. Though you may not have actively tried you certainly have been a mother to them. Maybe not THE mother but a mother non the less.

All kids should have the kind of love from the adults in their lives that your Skids get from you.

You are doing it right IMHO.

Best regards,
