Georgia is growing!

We constantly Blog about the states we live in not recognizing step parents. That it's like we don't exsist in their laws.

Well yesterday I went to fill out the benefits papers for my new job. It's a state owned school so it means great benefits. DH and I had talked about it and I told him I wanted benefits through my new job and he said he had to get benefits through his job b/c of the skids.

Well yesterday I asked about covering the skids on my insurance. Once before I had asked this with a previous state job and they said I legally couldn't cover them. Yesterday I was told that I could! All I had to do you give them a copy of my marriage licence, the skids birth certificates, a copy of the divorce papers, the skids social security cards, and a notarized statement saying that the skids lived with us at least 180 days out of the year. She even told me I could write the statement and she would notarize it.

I was thrilled to come home and tell DH not to fill out benefit papers with his job. (they make them wait tell they've been with the company 90 days) All he could say was "OH ok".

My insurance is better than what his company offers, it's cheaper, and they cover more things. I know I won't make much money with this job but it's worth it for the benefits. I've now got health, dental, vision, short and long term disability, legal, cancer, and life insurance. I can even cover DH and the Skids on the life insurance. I haven't desided on covering the skids yet or not. I know if something happened it would help, but it seems weird that I would get the money. I've got 30 days to deside on that. I am going to cover DH though.

If anything happened to one of them, and I hope nothing ever does, but if it did, you guys would need that money. Funerals are expensive. It would be paid to "you," but you and DH would have it to cover a catastrophe like this and it's usually so cheap that you'd never miss it out of your pay. We've got life insurance policies on all four of our kids. Hope we never need it, but if we do, we won't have to worry about finding the money to bury them.

What's the status on the CS? How much longer is that going to drag out?

We are leaving after DH gets off work Thursday and will send the night at my MIL's. I don't forsee a problem getting it stopped unless BM has convenced the skids into moving back in with her this week.

I didn't even realize this was an issue! I didn't have to show any documentation at all to put SD on my insurance. Guess Massachusetts is ahead of the curve on this issue.

I just started a new job and I live in TN and our home office is in GA. They covered my ss with no questions and no documentation. He has health, dental, vision, and life insurance. At my old job he had to live with us to get the insurance under me when H and I married. If by law the dad is required to carry the insurance and you marry that man and you have the benefits through your work you should be allowed to add his kids no questions asked. So glad for you about this. Benefits are SOOO IMPORTANT! Congrats

My ex covered his step kids and our daughter with problems at all. Prior to that, DH and I had my daughter and his daughter on one family plan. The only reason I dropped that one was because the policy my ex got with his employer was a good one for BD and the AG was charging my ex extra money every month because I was carrying the insurance and not him.

Good luck on Friday at court. I will keep you in my prayers
