Is it Easter or Christmas?

Chmmy's picture

Just wondering cuz DH had to run out yesterday to buy gifts and gift cards for Easter. So Easter around here is like Christmas and Christmas is like MTVs Sweet 16.

Next week is my 1 year anniversary so I guess Ive been through a year of holidays with these people although I didnt fully move in until June, i had work responsibilities to finish up and my kids graduated college last May both moved out of state in Jun. They wanted to stay at our house, they never would have wanted to stay here for 2 months.

So I'll have my 1st Mothers day here next month. I will tell DH pls dont tell the kids to text me their fake ass texts like last year. Maybe mom's day gift to myself is I leave & stay with family for the wknd.

Happy Easter STalker friends

"Just wondering cuz DH had to run out yesterday to buy gifts and gift cards for Easter."

I'm 51.  Growing my parents gave my sister and I stuff on Easter morning.  I did the same with my son when he was growing up.

I'm taking 3 of my sister's kids to Disney World in July.  While I was out yesterday, I picked up a Disney gift cards.  I will give my niece 13 a gift card, a Hidden Mickey book and Minnie ears in a cute box today. ( the 20 year old is away at college and the 12 year old is spending spring break in Italy with his school so they aren't getting anything).

Before leaving school on Thursday, I gave my students (2nd graders)huge Easter bags filled with candy and toys.

Why is it so wrong to do fun stuff with/for kids on the holidays?

I don't understand the secular evolution of Easter at freaking all. We aren't religious, so we do not observe Easter. We aren't assholes, either, so we don't make a big secular/materialistic production of it.

I don't see it as a gift giving holiday either. I am not religious but I like an Easter egg hunt as much as the next person. And although I'm not observant there are thousands of years of spring holiday observance - so I go along with it. Basically, I'll celebrate anybody's feasting holiday (I'm not so big on fasting and atonement ones) and moreso with those from my own/partner's cultural backgrounds. We didn't have the kids on Easter and it was a chore day, so that's what we did today. I did get some chocolate ice cream.

We don't "celebrate" Easter either. The kids don't get gifts or eggs or anything for that matter. In fact, we enjoyed dinner cooked by my 14 DS last night!

Gift Cards for Mother’s Day ?  Or are the kids getting them ?  Really depends on the amount of the Gift Cards ? Something normal like $50. Can’t buy much for $50 p. or we talking $100’s with the S ?

SS12 tells us there is no God and makes fun of people who believe. His aunt took him to her church last summer and was very embarrased by the comments he blurts out. He's so rude and honestly none of them deserve gifts with their behavior lately. I always got my kids baskets with token gifts. Nothing wring with that. Something wrong with the kids behavior and DHs behavior that he feels he needs to overdo everything. He also put the baskets on the table I am using to serve hors d'oeuvres for the 30+ people who will be here tiday for Easter....the fake holiday according to SS12. "There is no Jesus, there is no God. Jesus has risen that that didnt happen"

Nothing wrong with a nice basket with a few treats.  But spending $100+ on lots of presents is ridiculous.  So many of today's children have 10x more toys than they will ever be able to play with.

No child should expect to get a toy everytime one goes to the store. Now I will admit that I got a little Golden Book every time I went to the dentist.  But I don't put books in the category with toys.

were younger we always did a couple of outdoor items (bubbles, kite etc), a book, a movie and candy. My mom still makes baskets for each of her kids and grandkids though lol. I got a basket full of chocolate covered marshmallows and a Starbucks gift card. She did the same for my son and DIL and my husband (his candy was Reese's), and all of the other grandkids and my siblings. It's prom season in our house so I figure the money I am spending on prom covers Easter as well.

I saw pictures on Facebook today with hundreds of dollars of bikes, game systems, etc all tucked around Easter baskets. It's a bit ridiculous. Now Christmas? I go all out for Christmas.

We did small baskets with a couple summer items/toys and a few candy items...10 to 15 dollars for each basket. I think it's a fun tradition but theres definitely no need for second Christmas or anything excessive. The amount of stuff they get for holidays and birthdays throughout the year is insane, especially with stepfamilies since there tends to be more extended family then.

This is the first year I didn't do or buy anything easter related for the kids. We ate waffles and binge watched Netflix.  The youngest is a preteen now so he was cool with it.
