Dear Valued Users,
It's with a heavy heart that we announce the permanent closure of StepTalk.org on August 31st, 2025.
This decision wasn't an easy one. For over twenty years, StepTalk has been a source of support for stepparents around the world! However, over the years, the costs associated with maintaining and upgrading the site to remain secure, meet current standards and maintain availability have become unsustainable.
We are incredibly grateful for your support, contributions and the community you've helped us build. Your engagement has made StepTalk.org a special place and we cherish the memories and connections made here.
We would especially like to thank Aniki for volunteering to be a moderator and for caring so much.
Thank you for being a part of our journey and we wish you all the best.
Sincerely,
Dawn and The StepTalk Team

Except for the post office
Except for the post office staff and the mail delivery persons, no one else is particularly privy to people's mail. As the cards are a basic general 'ho hum' post card that go monthly to every NCP on their routes, I doubt they notice, read nor give a sh*t.
It's a reminder. Not like it says 'hey possible deadbeat Mommy/Daddy did you forget your children this month?' It's not a secret that a large share of NCP pay CS. It's a generic 'just a reminder'. *shrugs* My water bill comes from the city each month on a postcard. Big deal. The entire postal system in my area could read my water bill. Hmmmmm, let's tae a peek and see if TVP paid her water bill last month.
Not much different than if the main political parties send out 'don't forget to vote Democrat/Republican in the Primary next week' postcards. Those list are generated by registered voting returns. If I get one that says 'Vote Democrat next Tuesday' do you think I'm going to fret over the mailman knowing I'm likely a Democrat?
The tax payers are paying for
The tax payers are paying for this waste of paper. If a parent is not going to pay their child support - I doubt this postcard is going to help. Have they done it long enough to see if the policy has made a change in how much child support is paid?
If the state really wants to send a reminder it seems like text or email would make more sense.
I bet if they really thought
I bet if they really thought they could get away with mandatory phone numbers and private email addresses, they might have tried that.
From what I read on the Kansas DCF they are on a campaign to promote child support payments. There was a presser last week announcing their efforts with KDOL to 'educate' employers on importance of reporting all new hires within 20dys of hiring. Hope is to keep up on the NCP workers that frequently change jobs. Also in process is a website where employers can click up CS withholding orders online. There goal two years ago when Kansas privatized the enforcement/payment center was to boost CS coming in up 52 million dollars in the first three years. I imagine moving into third year of the program they are trying to ramp up efforts.
I'm the NCP, and I'd probably
I'm the NCP, and I'd probably freak right on out if I got one of these--at least the first time, because I'd think somewhere I'd missed a payment.
