How old is to old to carry a healthy child around in public?

My ss is soon to be 9 in a month and insists on his dad carrying him half the time when we are in public. Is this normal? My own experience is from my 3 kids that are preteen and teens now and I didn't carry them at all after 2 or 3 years old.

Yeah that's what I'm doing at this point. There are other issues that are more troubling right now and I haven't said anything about it. It does bother me but like so much else I don't see the point in bringing it up.

My kids would've been embarrassed to be carried around past the age of 6. It's probably a control thing on the kids part- if dad is carrying him, he by default has most of dad's attention.

Lol I asked my ss a year or so ago how long did he expect his dad to carry him around and he replied until I'm 18. He's such a lightweight and my h is such a big guy that he may get his wish. But I will not be in public with either of them.

I would think 5 is old enough. Sounds like kid just wants to be babied, last ditch effort to steal attention away from step mom. Let a stranger mock or say something and I bet it stops.

Thank you for making me laugh Smile they look like a gorilla with a monkey hanging off of him. I put distance between us because it embarrasses me.

"A Gorilla with a monkey hanging off him" LOL thank you for this Abby! (does the monkey look like Echo's avatar?LOL)

Lol it's sad but true. My h is a big tall guy and ss just kind of hangs and swings on him. They look ridiculous.

Does that mean he has great muscles...? I'm imagining a great upper body from your OH to be able to carry him all that way, you're a lucky lady!
