Pumpkinhead (OSS 18.5) Is Going to the Local Community College

thinkthrice's picture

Proving that ANYONE can get into college these days. He BARELY passed public high school last July with a 1.7 GPA. Of course, Chef thinks Pumpkinhead would NEVER get into college with his grades.

I told him that ANYONE can take remedial grade school nowadays!!

Depends on what he's taking. If he's taking anything other than math and science, I don't have a lot of hope.

I think Community College doesn't turn anyone away. I would be happy that Skid is going to college. Maybe he will better himself and surprise you.

I will say I had the most hope for him and not his younger siblings who are downright feral.

Probably. According to the CO he is now emancipated because he moved out of the custodial BM's home and in with Chef's estranged uncle. Hell, if he makes grades above a 3.7, I'd be willing to chip in--but it would have to be a math/science major.

I also think there should be TRADE schools like the European system. Not everyone is cut out for university and today's community college HAVE become nothing more than dumbed down remedial grade school material.

After all, it will be a long time before robots can drive to your house and fix your plumbing or plumbing fixes itself.

I think trade school is a great option. My SO is a plumber and makes $5 hr more than I do (I have my BS degree and I'm working on my Master's)

Lord only knows if SD (16.5) or YSS (12 aka the houseshitter) will graduate. The only reason they sometime attend school is because they can socialize. MOTY church lady, all-american-soccer-mom-who-rose-from-the-ashes-of-divorce-like-a-phoenix BM has made grades, homework, classwork and attendance optional.

BINGO! And you're being generous. It's a 1. 7 GPA. If I or my bios had grades like that I would have held my head down in shame.

Is this a case of the kid only going because it's expected of him to go because he's been convinced he's , " too good", not to go? I have that too. The failing every single year after getting grades up and delusional BM And BD talking up college!

PS.. neither catches this kid up.. I do.

thinkthrice's picture

Exactly! He and his other two siblings have made a career of failing school, suspensions, unexcused absences, failing to complete homework or schoolwork. When the letters roll in about how they would not be allowed to participate in extra curricular activities (the focus point since day one for the BM), the BM goes down to the school officials and gives them a tongue lashing and a promise to do better.

All the while medicating them with the latest meds for traumatized kid (CODs) then would do their homework FOR them for awhile to keep the "heat" off. A pattern that has been going on for almost ten years now.

You may be new so just to let you know, the BM in my case is a CPS/FOSTER CARE WORKER by trade, which I find highly ironic. BTW the BM had a stint at foster care and tried her hand at fostering a kid (for the $$$$$ of course). Well apparently they have parenting standards that she couldn't meet. The BM makes a SHOW of being a parent and used to try to act like she was co-parenting in front of family court officials with whom she WORKS with when she was repeatedly violating the CO.

The foster kid ended up fighting with Pumpkinhead and bye bye, away he went. Seems the foster kid has landed in a good home now and is doing well (unlike the skids).

There's something other than "I want to go to college" at work here. Chances are the uncle told him he's got to do something besides selling smoothies off a truck or move out. He'll probably be studying music since he's going to be a rock star.

thinkthrice's picture

Exactly! And to top it all off, he wouldn't have snagged that p/t smoothie truck job if it hadn't been for the fact that one of the BM's relatives OWNS THE TRUCK!!!

Maybe the uncle's partner said "look, this kid needs to get down to some serious studying and not just BM-given aspirations of being a rock star!" I'm sure the uncle's partner recognizes that Pumpkinhead has ZERO musical talent!
