Car Door

Cover1W's picture

DP was in the habit of closing the car doors for SDs, all the time, when I met him. I finally have mostly got him to STOP doing that for them because they would NEVER close the doors themselves. At 7 & 9 they were old enough to do so.

SD9 now pretty much does it herself with little prompting.
SD11? Not so much. I have to remind her 98% of the time if I am driving with her.

I leave the house earlier than DP and SDs. Today I go out to the parking area and SD11 car door is wide open. All night. And it was raining, HARD. Bwahahahaha. I closed the door and then made sure the car would start (I want DP to get to work after all). Then I went around, thought to myself for a second, and re-opened the door. }:)
Then I drove myself away.

Haha! My DH carried SD's backpack back and forth to the car every day for her all last school year. I put a stop to it this year. Told him he is not her servant and she needs to start being responsible for her own shit.

Yes! He'll do this too! Even if he's carrying 3 other things for himself. SD9 can carry ONE school bag for god's sake. (SD11 won't let anyone carry hers any more so at least there's that).

I just shake my head and walk away. I never offer to carry a bag if he's got hers. Dirol

Oh yeah, the carrying the bags - like he's the freaking servant! They get here, and the skids just bounce inside with NOTHING (ok = they carry their ipads) and ex-OH would stagger in after them (after shutting the car doors no doubt LOL) carrying SD14's pillow, handbag, huge suitcase (for two night stay) and SS11's suitcase as well. AND take it all upstairs for them while they sat on their lazy entitle butts.

}:) Amused me immensely when he broke his collar bone last year and couldn't do it.... no way was *I* carrying their shit for them. Dirol

This is great! I would've done the same thing if I were you. Hopefully your husband will realize he needs to teach his kids to do these kinds of things on their own.

As of less than 6 months ago, DH was still helping SSalmost7 open and close his car door. Finally, DH said that Skidly could do it on his own. As soon as DH said that, Skidly started crying and having a meltdown in the Home Depot parking lot, claiming that he didn't know how to do it. Fortunately DH didn't back down. Instead we just stood there and stared at Skidly until he opened the door, climbed into the car, and then shut the door.

It often takes time for DH to realize that Skidly needs to do this stuff on his own, but once he does he won't back down until Skidly does it. Now, I have to work on getting him to stop cutting up Skidly's food.

But that's totally awesome what you did with the car door. Love it!!!

My ss9 still can't close the car doors by himself.. He closed them but they don't get shut all the way, sometimes doors are left wide open ..but to hubs it's not that big of deal
