My Country (excerpt)

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me!

Waltzing Matilda

Oh there once was a swagman camped in a billabong
Under the shade of a coolibah tree
And he sang as he looked at his old billy boiling
Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me

Chorus
Who'll come a waltzing Matilda my darling
Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me
Waltzing Matilda and leading a water bag
Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me

Down came a jumbuck to drink at the water hole
Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee
And he sang as he stowed him away in his tucker bag
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me

Down came the squatter a riding on his thoroughbred
Down came the troopers one two three
Whose is that jumbuck you've got in the tucker bag
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me

But the swagman he up and he jumped into the water hole
Drowning himself by the coolibah tree
And his ghost may be heard as it sings in the billabong
Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me

Advance Australia Fair

Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free;
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in Nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia fair!"

When gallant Cook from Albion sail'd,
To trace wide oceans o'er,
True British courage bore him on,
Till he landed on our shore.
Then here he raised Old England's flag,
The standard of the brave;
With all her faults we love her still,
"Brittannia rules the wave!"
In joyful strains then let us sing
"Advance Australia fair!"

Beneath our radiant southern Cross,
We'll toil with hearts and hands;
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands;
For those who've come across the seas
We've boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
To advance Australia fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing
"Advance Australia fair!"

While other nations of the globe
Behold us from afar,
We'll rise to high renown and shine
Like our glorious southern star;
From England, Scotia, Erin's Isle,
Who come our lot to share,
Let all combine with heart and hand
To advance Australia fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing
"Advance Australia fair!"

Shou'd foreign foe e'er sight our coast,
Or dare a foot to land,
We'll rouse to arms like sires of yore
To guard our native strand;
Brittannia then shall surely know,
Beyond wide ocean's roll,
Her sons in fair Australia's land
Still keep a British soul.
In joyful strains the let us sing
"Advance Australia fair!"

Happy Australia Day !

My BS-13 has a crew of computer game playing boys down in Australia. The same 4 boys for the last few years. Time change issues are a huge hassle. However, they Smile have vibrant discussions about schools, grocery stores, Mothers, Nutella and what types of candy are sold there versus here and ... I like to think that it is a gentle cultural detente.

Edit: I will share some of your post with him

Oh - not the last one - or maybe watch it first, I fear most of you outside of Oz wont get it anyway, most of it is a play on place names. So hysterical if you KNOW the place LOL

Thanks Smile Been a quiet day. Say G'day to your son for me Wink

Caution acknowledged. I couldn't get it to play for me anyway. The Men Down Under will simply give BS-13 ammunition tomorrow for laughter and jokes.

LOL - well it was only about 20 here, COLD - not at all what Australia Day should be. Very disappointed! It's also later here (10.14pm) so everything is done and dusted.

Sounds like you both had/are having great days!

I spent the day driving from nsw South coast (Illawarra region) to Sydney. Stopping for a dip in Kangaroo Valley. Was freezing! Seriously nice break. All week is supposed to be 23-27 or so and raining. Nice.
