No good deed.... (rant)

...goes unpunished. But you knew that.

I get a letter from the County addressed to My Name at my house from before I moved into Dh's. I'm all sentimental and a bit weepy because it's from Animal Control. I know they want a dog license renewal and both my little loves live in heaven now. So I steel myself to write a letter to the County letting them know I WISH I could pay the license renewal but it's, um, well, here's where the tears come in. I'm prepared with the dates and all other details. Not happy memories.

So I open the letter, having steeled myself up.

Oh.

The dog they want a license for is BM's FREAKING dog.

Yes, this is all my fault because I am the one who took him to the vet for all his shots and procedures. The vet knew the score, the chip is under BM's name and address. We encouraged BM to get him licensed. We told her the vet would send in the rabies certificate to the County so it would therefore become interested and her dog would no longer be a ghost dog as far as the County records were concerned. This was over two years ago.

She, as usual, has done nothing.

Poor little dog. Yes, yes, yes, I know, I got myself into it. But believe me, I did it for the dog, I did it for myself so I could sleep at night. She just ticks me off. A bit of a shock getting a letter from the County at my private, single lady address for BM's mess. She. Ticks. Me. Off. Take care of your dog, lady!

I have my four dogs plus SDog the Peeing Wonder. I can't tell you how much I have to juggle getting exams, special foods, medications, etc all taken care of. And the vet is 30 minutes away. But I do it. Because I made the commitment to these pups. Pisses me off that BM can't do one simple thing. Good for you for stepping up to help out two years ago.

Who would've thought you'd get a letter at your house for HER dog? I lost two pups a few years back, due to old age, and I still think of them everyday. I know how you must have felt thinking you would have to send in your own doggie info.

God bless pups!

Thank you, you do know exactly how it felt. I appreciate that.

We still take care of her dog btw, we didn't quit 2 years ago. But that's just when he finally got his shots because I showed up in BM's life and the County was first notified he exists. We have a supply of Frontline we bought --keep at OUR house so she doesn't lose it--that DH applies when he picks up skids or I apply when we are babysitting sdog. And so much more.

As a doglover, you may be happy to hear that after 2 years of marriage, my skids and their BM have finally, finally, gotten the tiniest clue about pups. SD sees how the dog prefers me to her by far at our house and she is finally learning to emulate my behavior toward the dog. A little. But enough that DH came home with a story recently about how he saw BM emulating my dog behavior toward her own damn dog. We know damn well she got pressure from her kids, in spite of SD's hatred of me.
