SD13 shattered her cell phone screen. poor little rotten brat!

ive been waiting for this day for a long time.

of course she will cry and whine and fall apart and im sure her mother will buy her a new one and probably an iphone 4 (she has the poor peasant's 4S right now) but its still gonna make for a miserable rest of vacation for them both. Smile

SheSloth keeps pushing for a new phone. Her screen has been cracked all summer (dropped down the stairs at school at some point toward the end of last school year), and it is a cheesy LG slider phone...the "dumb" kind. She keeps begging for an iPhone or an Android...oh hell no! The way AT&T are doing things these days, it is almost like you are leasing the phone...you pay a monthly charge on your phone bill for the phone and you are allowed to upgrade after a year...as long as the phone you are turning in is in good condition. Otherwise, you are stuck paying out the phone for 2 years before you can upgrade it, or you have to pay up front the remainder of the phone before you get a new one. By doing it this way, they have removed the steep discount on the phone itself that they used to give you for signing a 2-year contract. The way SheSloth goes through phones, no way in hell! Get a case people say...SheSloth had a case for both of her iPods and said it made it to fat...so she took them off. Guess what, both iPods destroyed. Same thing with any tablet she has had. Nope...no smart phone for SheSloth!

Tell her to save the money to have the screen replaced. Cheap, easy, and far less cost than a new phone.

I have had to put two new screens on my 5. The first one shattered when I dropped it on marble floors before I bought a case. The replacement had a tiny crack when I picked it up that eventually worked across the screen. I pointed it out when I picked the phone up and they gave me a voucher for another new screen glass when I chose to replace it.

You can even order them online and replace them yourself. Not difficult at all.

Yup! There is a booth at the mall here that does it. $99 +tax! Takes her about an hour to do it (only because she usually has a line of them...actual screen replacement takes her like 5 minutes). Drop it off, walk around the mall, pick it up.

Replacement screen kit from Amazon ~$12.00. Have the YouTube video in front of you when you change the screen. Not too difficult.

LOL...I've watched the girl at the mall change screens (when mine was broken). I sit here and try to imagine SheSloth doing it, and I want to roll on the floor laughing!

We have to remember...not too difficult for us is a near impossible for some of these girls! LOL

we arent involved with the phone. fiance was against her having one because of internet safety concerns (her mother does not monitor useage, block sites or have any sort of parental controls over what she's doing on it). Mother of the Year bought it for her.

when they were married my fiance foolishly started the cell phone for the kid when she was like 8. but he only bought her a basic phone that could dial 911 and her parents. all else (texting, etc.) was blocked. she of course rarely used it because it wasnt "fun".

MOTY got her the iphone so SD would like her about 1.5 years ago. COincidentally, that's when she started doing worse in school due to being up all night on it (she's allowed to fall asleep with it) and she even got busted a few times for having it in school. Mom excuses it by saying "she's a typical teen and uses it as a typical teen would". Bullshit. The kid is addicted and its unhealthy but we have no say other than to limit it or forbid its use when she's with us.

SS got new phones due to....

Washing one.
Throwing two against the wall in fits of anger.
Playing hacky sac with one.

He had MANY more phones... those are just the ones that I know the reasons of why BM or DH replaced a perfectly good phone.

It's crazy. Get a phone for kids that has 911 and 5 phone numbers so they can call home. Prepay minimum minutes. End all this idiocy.

I can top yours. my ss begged and pleaded for a new "amazing" phone even though he didn't need one. we made it happen and extended a contract on our plan even though we didn't want to. two weeks later he didn't want the phone anymore, and my dh actually gave him a different one. he has also broken several phones, screens, and we agreed that next one he will get on his own. we will see..

Back in the day when SS18 wasn't punishing DH with the silent treatment, he threw his phone at SS16 out of anger. Not surprisingly, the screen broke. DH was "supposed" to pay for it, (BM and SS18 logic) because if SS16 wasn't being obnoxious, SS18 wouldn't have "had" to throw it :?

Ugh! Someone gave SheSloth a smartphone! Crap! So now, DH is trying to talk me into letting her have data! Hell no!!!!! Here is the funny part if his argument..."The other two had data at 15!" Love his revisional history! BD23 never had a smartphone...they were just making their appearance...barely! BS19 didn't get a smartphone until he started working at Lowes...and he was 18! So I don't get where he thinks my bios had a data plan at 15!

SheSloth is not getting data! She cannot be trusted to not to run up our bill, and the new way they do the family data plan, we can't lock her down to an amount...it is on or off...period! And yeah, you can turn it off, but it requires a reboot of the phone to take effect after you set it on the web site...and we know she won't reboot her phone when she figures out why. I've told DH data stays off on her phone...period! She can attach it to hit spots/wifi and that is it! I'm not paying for 20 billion selifies a day and constant pandora!

Calypso1977's picture

unless it was given to her by her mother, you have the right to take the thing away and tell her seh's not allowed to have it.

of course it sounds like your DH is more than happy to let her have it.

you control the bills, right? so do not give her data. you are right - she will run it up.

It was supposedly some friend from school that got a new phone...a friend that...here is a shocking thing for a teenager...ACTUALLY TAKES CARE OF THEIR STUFF! The phone is in great shape. But yeah, DH is more than happy to let her have it, because he doesn't have to hear about SheSloth's cracked screen on her dumb phone any more.

And trust me...I've made it clear to DH that SheSloth is to NOT have data, and I will be watching. If he turns it on without telling me (as can be done through the AT&T site), I will promptly turn it back off again! I don't trust her to keep her usage behind any kind of set limit. DH was like, "Can't you set a usage limit for her?" I told him not on the back end...he can set a limit on her phone, but I'm certain she would figure out how to unset it when she has reached her limit and can't use data any more...thinking we won't notice...so, NO! That is when he tried to give me the revisional history of my bios having data at 15...bwahahaha! How is that possible, when BD23 was 16 when AT&T finally came out with an affordable unlimited text plan, and she was excited about FINALLY being able to text! And like I said, BS19 didn't have a smart phone until right about the time he turned 18...did some yard work for a friend of ours, and she paid him with her old iPhone, so we got him a really small data plan, and locked it down (they didn't have the family plan then). He's on our family plan now, but guess what, he was responsible enough to set a limit himself on his phone when we told him what he was allowed to use, and he stays under his limit!

I also don't trust SheSloth with always available internet on a device with a camera, and I don't see how DH can even think this is a good idea with the stupid things SheSloth has posted (the pics of her smoking a fat joint on Instagram that got her busted and sent to our house, the pictures of her shooting the double bird from last school year with captions about being dress-coded at school and captions that seem to have sent the message "f**k the administration", boob selfies just this past summer, etc.).

Of course, I'm giving the thing 2 months TOPS before it has a shattered screen! MIL last night kept saying it was nice her friend gave it to her, and that she needed to go on Amazon and buy a case and stuff. 1) SheSloth has no money to buy anything; and 2) buying a case is a waste of money because she NEVER leaves them on...always has some excuse to take it off and then SMASH! Has happened to every tablet, and both of her iPods!

can you change the AT&T password on your online account and not tell DH?

CantKeepDoingThis's picture

Unfortunately, AT&T allowed for him to set up one of his own...that logs into the same account. He uses his phone number instead of mine, and his password. Had to make him an "authorized" user on the account so that he didn't have to call me for my SSN every time he had phone issues, because there was a period of time there, think it was his iPhone 3, that it seemed he was in the AT&T store every other day. He had like two defective iPhone 3's before one that finally worked. Luckily, he usually has problems with his account, because he doesn't use it often enough, so I'm hoping that I won't have to override his changes, because he will not be making them.
