Steering the family.

Every time I turn around my RSS13 (rude step son) is manipulating what we do. My DH is one who says things like "if you don't ask the answer is always no" So his kids have grow up asking constantly for everything under the sun. My DH is just now beginning to say "no" I'm pretty sure before I came along they never heard that word. They get whatever they want at gas stations... To the point they'll take one bite out of a candy & leave the rest. Take one sip out of a water bottle, etc. Finally after pointing this out to my DH & saying we really need to reel this in. It's a sense of entitlement & it's not necessary. He's been doing a ton better. Now when we do say yes the step kids at least finish what they got. We also stopped going out to eat with them bc of this behavior. But... Now RSS13 has learned a new angle. "I have to use the bathroom." A 30 minute drive, using the bathroom before we leave, HAVING to stop before we get there! Before you say he could have a problem... This has been happening for months! & he screws around when we stop & has even said he just wanted to get out of the car for a minute. I think he just likes steering out family. Feeling he has some control. I have said before, "he can wait" He has literally started crying & then when we stopped, casually strolled to the bathroom. Grrrr.

You must be a saint.

If he did that even once my head would explode and I would unleash upon him a fury of which knows no bounds and he'd piss his pants rather than ever ask again.
