Skids to skip school so that BM can get an extra day off??? Uh...I don't think so!

So, after a month away from the skids (long story short: BM didn't want them to come over anymore because SS11 made up lies about DH and me...Big fight ensued...DH stopped getting them), we are getting them back again (tomorrow, to be exact). When they get here, they will have Christmas presents to open - both from DH and me, and their grandparents - so they have a LOT of incentive to come over now.

Anyway, DH just called to tell me that BM wants him to pick up the kids tonight (it's Thursday) instead of tomorrow, which is our usual pick up day. He would be picking them up after he finishes work (at 10:30 pm) and it's an hour and a half drive, not to mention it's supposed to snow pretty bad overnight. They would get here by about 1:30am in the morning; and knowing that they had presents, they would of course want to stay up and open/play with them. We were all up really early this morning to take our BS5 to school, and are pretty much running on only 6 hours of sleep. And knowing DH, he'd be asleep in no time, leaving ME to stay up with the kids??? Uh...NO.

So, I ask him why she wants them here tonight instead of tomorrow, and her reason was that SD9 "didn't want to go to school tomorrow" :jawdrop: So, BM figures that she'd try to cash in on an extra day away from the skids by allowing her daughter to ditch school! Which means that SS11 will also miss school, and I think that if an 11-yr-old still doesn't know how to read, then they should GO TO SCHOOL!

Am I wrong in thinking this? Am I being selfish? I'm completely fine with having them over again, but this is getting ridiculous! She really has some nerve. I don't know WHAT DH was thinking when he told her YES. But I straight out told him to tell her NO, that we'll get them on Friday, like we're supposed to. I don't think CAS would appreciate the fact that she'd let her kids miss school just so that she can have the extra day off! If she keeps letting these kids (and MINORS btw!) make all these decisions themselves, then she'll have a really hard time when they end up dropping out of highschool and either turning to a life of crime or getting pregnant before they're 20!

I'm standing my ground. SOMEONE has to care about their education. If she wants to raise highschool dropouts, then that's HER problem. And if DH decides to get them tonight, then that's HIS problem. HE can stay up all night with them while I go to bed Wink
