So what does everyone think about the government shut down. Is it going to affect any members here?

I think it's upsetting. I work for the gov't however I'm considered "essential" or "excepted" so we are working no matter what we just aren't able to do anything that will incur costs ie.mailing out documents. Right now we're being told we ARE getting paid, the question is though, WHEN will we be paid. It's all very frustrating and very scary to think that in 2 weeks my paycheck may possbily be delayed.

I've heard that va services will continue-including checks-however I also read that if the shutdown continues for more than 30 days then checks may not go out next month.

We are doing a FHA loan, I talked to my mortgage guy this morning, no changes. He seemed pretty put out that the news was reporting problems with loans though Wink

I don't understand why we have "nonessential" gov't workers to begin with. i think gov't is too large and takes on too many duties that should be left to the private sector. and i agree with Brie, it's better than the mass layoffs everyone else in the country has been suffering. job loss/reduction sucks for people whether it's in the private sector or gov't. and i don't think it's "shut down", but it is a slow down.

This? This is exactly why I am a registered Independent and do not vote party lines. They are all asshats!

This childish "our way or the highway" crap on all sides has gotten old. I thought these jackasses were representing us, working for We the People? Apparently "The People" need to pull our heads out of asses and do something about all of our elected officials. They are not doing their jobs.

Stupid, stubborn, bulls**t behavior is causing our market to go down again and lowering our credit rating....again. These idiots should all be stripped naked, dipped in honey and tied to red ant hills.

If I pulled this crap at my office, I would have been fired.

This is what I don't understand. Almost everyone I, their insurance is going up. My DH's is going up $1800.00 a year and they are being told it is because of Obamacare.

Like I said...I have not researched it to much yet, so I don't know. I do know that LADY is probably the only person I have ever heard say anything good about it. (that was not a politician) lol

My insurance is also going up due to obamaCare. My premiums haven't gone up in 3 years & we got a letter from the insurance company stating that due to obamaCare, my premiums are going up nearly $600/year.

I've spoken with 4 different providers about it, & they all have the same thought, that obamaCare is not everything it's cracked up to be.

My thoughts..."We the people..." (but not me) were sold a plan that even the salesmen don't have figured out.

This is not about the people. NONE of it. This is about the people who are elected into office & are PAID to work together to get shit right for the people, but lose NOTHING if they fail to do their jobs.

If I don't do my job, I don't get paid.

If they don't do their job, they still collect their travel perks, their paid meals, & their paychecks, & OTHERS don't get paid. (Thank goodness DH & I are not government workers, & our employment isn't affected at this point.)

IMO, it's ALL crap. Where does the money go when someone is forced to pay a fine because they don't buy into it? The government.

I'm failing to see where We the people benefit in this.

@ MonkeyseeMonkeydo - Next time you, a private sector employee, gets laid off or have to take a pay cut, I'll make sure I don't cry a river for you either.

I don't think you understand what this shut down will do to the private sector and the economy. A lot of private companies depend on government work. This will have a trickle down effect; more than you probably realize. Think about it... The salesman that sells his product to the government - his commission will either be a lot less or none at all (depending on how long this shut down lasts). A company that sells its service to the government may not be able to keep their employees if the government issues a stop work order on their contract. This applies to people that sell supplies for copiers and printers to the bigger companies that develop weapons and everyone in between. This shut down could very well effect you and the company you work for. So don't stand so proud that government employees have been furlough because in fact, you could potentially be without a job or cut in pay.

I find it rude that people would take pleasure is seeing anyone lose pay for something they have no control over - regardless of whether you are a government employee or private sector employee.

I wish parts of it would shut down for good. And I also wish there was a way we could send politicians like Nancy "We have to pass the bill so you can find out what's in it" Pelosi, Barack Obama, Maxine Waters and Joe Biden home for.good.

Then we could focus on firing employees who truly serve no use and those who have done illegal things. I read about a teacher in NY who was put on paid administrative leave after being convicted of abusing kids. I know that's at a state level but it was still nauseating.

I think all our politicians on both sides of the aisle are acting like toddlers who are fighting over a toy.

The thing is, our country and our citizens are not TOYS! They don't care if we get broke. They got theirs already!
