And the nightmare continues

True to my word, SS was grounded all weekend and continues to be. DH got upset with me on Saturday because he wanted SS to go swimming but I reminded him that SS is grounded. Also,It was 60 degrees out at that point in the morning and the pools are still cold. I don’t know what he was thinking.

Anyway, SS spent 3 hrs doing math homework on Friday night. He got every question wrong. I went over the questions with him on Saturday. I made him re-do the questions and actually SHOW his work. (this has been an ongoing problem with SS and math). Spent most of the day Saturday and Sunday going over this math, dividing decimals. He just wasn't getting it. SS was showing his work for me but on the math paper to turn in, he didn't. DH specially asked him if he needed to show the work. SS said no.

I get home from work yesterday and the first think I hear is how he failed a math test consisting of multiplying decimals and that his teacher won't accept his homework because he didn't show his work. SS pulled a notebook out of his backpack and told me he had the work he did over the weekend and he was going to give it to the teacher.

Now, I worked with SS pretty much the entire weekend on this homework. I KNOW this isn't the notebook he was using. I looked at it and told SS and DH that the work wasn't SS's handwriting. They both argued it was. Then I said, really because it's not even dividing decimals. It's completely different math. It was an old notebook of SD's that happened to have math in it. I have no idea how SS thought we was going to pass that off to the teacher. Anyway, SS had to sit down and re-do that homework for the third time.

Also, SS has been lying to us about his interim report. We never got it and he keeps telling us that his teacher hasn't given it to him yet. I have the teacher's cell number and I text him last night asking about it. He called me back. Apparently, he gave SS the interim report two weeks ago. I asked for another copy. I then told him that SS was struggling with the dividing decimals and asked him if they were going to be reviewing before tomorrow's test. He said they reviewed today, but SS decided to sleep through the entire thing.

DH was super pissed. DH yelled at SS and took more privileges from him. I don’t think he has anything left at this point that he can take from him.

So after all that, SS was doing his actual homework for tomorrow. I reviewed it. And surprise surprise, he missed almost all the question and didn't show his work.

Thank you.

It doesn't bother me to give up a weekend doing homework. I've been doing it for so many years for skids. I guess I'm used to it. SS is actually a really smart kid. He's just really lazy too.

I applaud your attempts to help but I would have to step away and tell DH "It's all on you!"
My time is precious and I would be livid if I spent an entire weekend helping my SS with math and he chose to sleep in class instead of pay attention.
Nope....I would be done. DH would have to handle it from that day forward.

Right now, I feel like it's worth the effort. I don't want adult skids living with me. This may make zero difference but at least I'm trying.
