O/T - Finding Me a Decade of Darkness - A Memoir

I read this book last night about Michelle Knight, one of the three girls held in captivity for 11 years by Ariel Castro. You may have seen it on TV it was national news last year, it happened in Cleveland OH.

Anyway - I think EVERY woman and teenage girl should read this story. Maybe others can avoid the mistakes these three girls made that ultimately got them imprisoned for so many years.

I have replayed this book over and over in my head today, it's a very traumatic and frightening story. It makes you appreciate all you have to be thankful for, highly recommended read.

yea but....it may be a spoiler!!! So don't read any farther if you don't want.

The two biggest mistakes:
1) Desperate situation that required a ride from a stranger.
2) Trusting a man because he is your friend's father (all 3 girls were friends with his daughters)

I worry about my 11 year niece all of the time. She is very aware of "stranger danger" but anything can happen.

I do remember a few years ago, she was supposed to go with her dad but her loser dad had lost his license so was going to have a friend (a male friend) pick her up, but her dad may or may not be with him for the pick up. :?

Niece told him, "No, I am not going with him." Good girl.

These men know how to manipulate and make these girls feel like they can trust them. Sickening.

I agree.

I am not sure that it's only strangers they teach them to be leery of these days, which is why I put it in quotation marks.

My niece had met her dad's friend on more than one occasion but she knew it wasn't right for her to go with him without her dad.

I actually shouldn't have left boys out Bc they can also be victims of predators.
