Just going to vent about SD20 and college

So SD is now in her third-year of what is probably a five-year (if not longer) college "experience." She lives in the dorms, in her own room, and this has been a sore point with me because we pay a third of her costs and this just seems ridiculous. SD's single dorm room costs nearly as much (within $100) as our mortgage for the house where DH, myself, and our two BDs live. It's crazy! I have told DH time and time again that SD needs to SHARE an apartment with a roommate to cut this cost. He agrees and says she is doing this, but as of last week she was still in that damn dorm room. Grrr!

Living in the dorms by year three is weird...BS18 is filling out apps for next year to be an RA to save money and he even wants out. Most of them do the apt living dorms here 2nd year.

put in a craigslist ad for a roommate for princess, then collect the rent from said roommate. BWAHAHA

oh but I know your DH won't go for that--after all it's HIS precious Kardashian daughter--all the while using ELIZABETH'S money!

I went to the state school where I lived and a lot of upper class stayed in the dorms. I moved out after sophomore year (the first year we were allowed), but always wished I hadn't. It has nothing to do with being spoiled. I just wished I'd taken a couple of extra years before I had to deal with true adulthood.

Yes, SD is using the dorms as an excuse to avoid growing up. Having an apartment would mean having responsibility to take care of it, and she's not willing to do that. But I don't think that means we let her use them as a crutch indefinitely.

I feel so badly for you. Is college court ordered? My SD used my discount 75% off but had to pay the 25% herself. That 25% out of her pocket is the only reason she quit (her grades were horrible). I think if we had been paying for it all she would have made college her career.
