Birthday Sox...ot

secret's picture

I've been pretty focused on knitting socks for DH lately... he pissed and moaned all winter last year about it... and I told him I'd make him some for this year.

It's pay close at work so I've been pretty much just sitting here, knitting. My hands hurt.

I've only been working on them at work, on the commute, and when DH is out of the house - he hasn't seen me work on them.

His birthday is in a few weeks... I'll be able to give him about a dozen pairs.

These are the ones I'm about to finish. They're SOOOO thick and soft....the next ones I'm going to make have skulls on them. lol

Those look fantastic!

I've only ever knit baby socks, but I'd like to knit adult socks one day. What weight yarn/size needles did you use?

thanks!

They're made with 6pt super bulky yarn on 6.0 needles.

I was surprised at how quickly they knit up... I did both during the course of yesterday and today.... I did them cuff down, grafted the toes.

Usually I stick with fingering yarn and 2.0 or 2.5 needles... I do them toe-up and 2 at a time using magic loop... so they take quite a bit longer.

I was considering using super bulky yarn but was wondering if super bulky was TOO bulky lol. But yours came out really well!

How does fingering yarn hold up on socks? Does it hold up to normal wear? I would hate to spend so much time knitting socks and then wear a hole in the heel after a month.

Depends what you consider normal wear.... a normal day for me is sitting at my desk most of the day...

I suspect that walking around all day might wear them out sooner... I haven't really noticed - I only wear knit socks occasionally, not all the time... haven't had any wear out yet, had a few pairs for a few years now.

I made some 'super sox' for my grand daughter going through Remicaid infusions for Crohns. There is something satisfying with Women's Ninja Home Skills. Smile
