Santa Daddy..

Whatcha gonna buy me this year..Santa Daddy??

So this year his 15 year old daughter got a pair of expensive headphones and a $250.00 40" big screen tv (good deal Daddy got on the net..) for her room...

Whatever his sister gets, big 18 year old brother takes in cash...

Amounts to about $500 bucks a piece and neither one of them has the decency to call Disney Daddy and say thank you..

Their dad feels like a schmuck.

Not the way I was raised, since I got what I was thankful for. A very nice Christmas with family as my mom went out of her way to buy what we could afford. Things like clothes were under the tree. New winter boots. Maybe something new to play in the snow in. A new snow shovel to shovel snow with Dad? Yep.

And we were thankful.

When we got a bit older we got some things my mom liked for us to have out of HER things. Like her pearl earrings after we got our ears pierced. Those things meant the world to us and things we have kept til this day.

I'm one that grew up thankful while his kids just grow up greedy!!

My sister and I received a ton of toys and clothes under the tree every year. We were grateful for all of it. We both raised our kids the same way.

Giving your kids tons of stuff for Christmas(or any other time for that matter) isn't the problem. The problem is that some parents never took the time to teach their children for be thankful no matter how or how little you receive. Chances are those same parents also never took the time to teach their kids about giving to others.

I really dread the ungrateful brat syndrome with skids this year. I remember a Christmas years ago when SD wanted something particular for Christmas. It cost about $500. We couldn't afford that and still buy gifts for everyone else which we told her. Christmas morning rolled around and when she realized she didn't get her gift, she collected all her other gifts (garbage to her) threw them in the floor of her bedroom and sulked in there the rest of the day texting bm about how cheap and greedy we were.

Oh the holidays....

In my parent's family it has always been the search for just right gift for the other people in the family. Even when we were kids it was about getting meaningful gifts for others.

Don't get me wrong. Every Christmas eve night was ripe with excitement over Christmas morning and what amazing things would be piled under the tree and spilling out all over the living room. But, as much excitement was about watching others in the family open their gifts as it was about opening your own.

Still is.

This will be the first time all of my parent's progeny and GrandSpawn will be together in several years. I have not seen my brother in nearly 4 years when we were all together for Christmas of 12'.

This year I have completed the gift shopping for my bride and my son. He is re-enlisting next week and I will be bequeathing him my first high end watch which I received as a gift from my own parents nearly 40 years ago. My bride will get a nice writing instrument, and now I have to dig in and finish up shopping for my mom, dad, brother, SIL, niece, and nephews.

I am pumped!!!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!
