How late is to late????

Ok I'm asking "opinions" or what you do with YOUR BIOs NOT what your step kids do that you don't agree with.

SS13 stays up till 3 or 4am or later playing video games and then sleeps till 1 or 2pm when he comes over. Obviously this is not school nights just weekends and no school days. DH feels all teens do this and does not care. Opinions?

I honestly had the same weekend schedule when I was a teen. I read an article a few years back about how teenage internal clocks are all screwy and they keep weird hours. While I do support gentle pressure to keep a "normal" sleep schedule just for the sake of keeping on track for school, it's not so bad to give them wiggle room for biology.

A lot of teens do this, they get their sleep schedule screwed up. 13 seems young for that, though. If he gets up and goes to school as he should, then probably not a big deal.

They are getting a little bit more freedom and they decide a little bit more what time they want to stay up until and what time they get up.  It is very common and normal.  Unless he is is missing an event, I think it is ok if that is how he wants to spend his day.  No different than if he was hanging out with friends or playing video games... his choice on his day off.

My son and stepson did it.  I didn't care, however I stop being quiet so they can sleep after 11:00.  Then I vacuum or whatever I want to do.

I also think it would be good for you to explore why it bothers you.  t might help you deal with it better..

Well, crappy parents let 13yo kids play video games until 3-4 AM then sleep until midafternoon every time the kids are with them.  Then they bitch and whine about how ill behaved, lazy, tired, etc their kids are and how much they have to spend on glasses for their kids fried eyes and are confused about their kids arthritic hands when they are in high school.

I don't usually enforce a bedtime on weekends and holidays, but i do wake them up in the morning and give them chores. Or exercise. That makes them tired and not want to stay up as late.

Just had this battle in my house. It caused a lot of drama. Personally I don't think a 13 year old should be able to set their own bedtime. I wouldn't have set myself a reasonable bedtime at 13 so why expect any different?

I think if it's affecting his behaviour or disrupting the household then it should be curbed.

My bio daughter of 10.5 has stayed up at the latest of 11pm in the middle of summer holidays. No way could she do it on weekends as her sleeping pattern wouldn't go back in time for school...at 13 I wouldnt let her stay up passed midnight on school terms. Maybe at 15...
