OT/ Autumn

queensway's picture

In 3 days it will be fall. Here in Ohio the color change is gorgeous. When the sun shines on the trees it is like a show for everyone to see. Cider mills, crisp air, Halloween, a great time of year. What is your favorite season?

I love, love LOVEEEEEE Halloween and fall.. but just a teensy bit less than Christmas. Gah, it's really hard to choose one! I love spring and all the new grass and leaves and flowers and I love summer, because I love wearing sandals and not having to bundle up.

BS7 is going to have a Halloween party this year and I am so excited! (of course I am the one who planted that seed! Wink ) We're just going to have like 10 of his friends and we're going to do bobbing for apples, donuts on strings, pin the bow tie on the skeleton, a scavenger hunt, pumpkin painting, and some other fun Halloweeny type stuff. I don't know who's more excited him or me? lol We got all of the fall decorations out this past weekend, so the house is all decorated, just need to cut my cornstalks down and pick my pumpkins. We ended up with about 70 or so pumpkins this year, so that was pretty good, considering friends who planted pumpkins didn't fare so well. I think the horse poop is the key! Wink we've been listening to Halloween music on Spotify for like 2 weeks now and I am getting antsy for the scary movie-a-thons to start!!

I love Christmas too, but I really dislike the cold weather and could do without that. But I guess you have to have cold to have snow and it's just not really "Christmas" with out snow and snowmen! And without the cold of winter, I might not enjoy the warmth of spring and summer so much. Unfortunately I live in NY where some winters seem to last foreeevvverrr. Sad

Your party sounds like a lot of fun. Your son is going to love it. You sure put some thought into planning it. So many people decorate for Halloween and Fall just like they do for Christmas. Our street has outdoor lights on houses from Oct to Jan. It looks so nice at night time.

Fall is also my favorite season. It's also the time I feel most homesick. I grew up in New England and there's no better place for fall.

Fall is my absolute favourite season! I live in a bit of a rural area in canada so the leaves/scenery in general is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Plus I just love everything about the season... We've already went to the pumpkin patch, I've decorated our house for fall, I've been baking lots, and I updated my wardrobe! I also went to sephora the other day to pick up a few new dark vampy eyeshadows and lipsticks because fall makeup is so much fun to do!

The best part is my baby is due around halloween (my favourite holiday other than christmas!) so I'm looking forward to finally meeting him and dressing him in cute pumpkin outfits right away haha we plan to change from fall to halloween decor on the 1st of october!

queensway's picture

Your baby is going to born around Halloween. That is soon! I bet you can't wait. Best wishes. What will be nice for your child he or she can have Halloween birthday parties.

sunshinex's picture

It's getting closer! My due date is the 20th but I think he will be born on Friday the 13th before or Halloween itself, just because it seems unusual that his due date is between two spooky days Smile Thanks!!

queensway's picture

Friday the 13th!!!! LOL Are superstitious? If it is your first child you might be a little late.

sunshinex's picture

October Friday the 13th at that!! I'm not very superstitious but my cat was a halloween kitten and i've always been a bit strange, so everyone in my life keeps joking that of course i'm going to have my baby on a creepy day haha

I love fall too. Most favorite time of year. Its so beautiful, I love putting on a comfy sweater and go on a hike and see all the changing leaves.
Queensway I bet Ohio is beautiful this time of year.

Winter. Snow and subzero temps exhilarate me.... said no one ever! Ewwwwww! lol

classyNJ's picture

Ditto Daizy! LOL

Fall is my season as well. Love the crisp air, apple picking and horror flicks on 24 hours.

DaizyDuke's picture

I've lived in NY most of my life and went apple picking for the FIRST time last weekend! So much fun!! Definitely going to be an every year thing from now on!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

But Daizy... I said it! And I've been saying it all my life. I've dealt with 4 feet of snow on the ground in late April. No biggie... ~shrugs~

I was born in February, I spent the first 3 years of my life in Alaska, and I'm Finnish. Snow and cold, baby. Snow and cold.

Dovina's picture

Aniki, I actually do get what you are saying. I grew up in a very cold snowy province, then as an adult moved to a less cold snowy province. I used to love going home during cold months just to feel that wind chill freeze, because in a weird way that was my comfort zone. Ill have to admit now, not as much lol. But I love the first snowfall and the cozy fireplace with hot chocolate Smile

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Dovina, I love the snow and cold and have never tired of it. I have to get enough of walking outside and breathing in that fresh, crisp iciness. My dog LOVED the snow. He was such a pest when we shoveled. We threw shovelfuls of snow up into the air and he would jump up and try to catch it in his mouth. By the time we were done, our brown dog was all white. Sigh... I'll miss that this Winter.

classyNJ's picture

I cannot stand the cold. Snow isn't bad if it doesn't snow more than once. LOL Jersey is not just cold, but that damp cold that seeps into your bones and you cannot get warm. BRRRRR

I lived in Anchorage for two years and worked outside year round. I didn't mind that - dry and no wind. Fell in love with Sorrell winter boots.

Dovina's picture

"Its a dry cold" was always my defense when people would make fun of how cold my hometown was. When I moved to a damp cold area I felt like I could never warm up.
I suppose its what you are used to. People would ask how the heck could you live in a place where you had to plug in your cars on cold wintery nights. Such fond memories Smile
Sorrel winter boots are the best

Aniki-Moderator's picture

I despise hot temps and sweating. Blech. The other weekend, I did some work outside and was hot and sweaty, so I headed for the beach to sunbathe and swim. It was 70 at the house and 64 at the beach. Dirol

Dovina's picture

I hear you! I walk year round. My best power walks are in the cold. You can layer up , but in the hot you can only take so much off without scaring the children or being arrested Biggrin

Aniki-Moderator's picture

To me, there is nothing worse than the power going out on a hot, summer night and you're lying there....naked, sweating like crazy, and no way to cool off. If the power goes out in the winter, you can put on more clothes, pile on more blankets, snuggle with each other or a furbaby, and make hot drinks over the fireplace (or stove, if you have gas).

spring. i grew up in the northeast, i miss the vivid colors of fall. but i used to get S.A.D really bad, things started dying off so early, and stayed dead for so long... watching nature come back to life in the spring does wonders for my soul.

DaizyDuke's picture

Agree! That is what I hate most about winters in NY... I call it the "gloom and doom" it IS depressing when you can go weeks without seeing the sun and everything is barren and dead... and COLD. I'm pretty sure I have S.A.D. and I'm positive that DH does. Plus I'm an outdoorsy gal, I NEED to be outside and when it's 20 degrees out and the wind is blowing 50 miles an hour I don't WANT to be outside! Sad

queensway's picture

I'm alright with the snow around Christmas time. But the gloom and doom come Feb. are bad. Last winter was pretty mild for us. Wasn't to bad. I was able to get out and walk a lot.

Autumn is my fav season. Followed by Spring, Summer and Winter. Here in upstate NY we don't really have a lot of Spring. Basically 6 months of winter followed by two weeks of mud, then Summer.

I love going to my fav orchards and getting apple cider!! I love the smell of concord grapes in the air, the changing of the leaves, the crisp air to "put the gardens to bed." Chef loves horror flicks so he's already started his Halloween routine.

Right now though, we're back into summer temps!!

GhostWhoCooksDinner's picture

Right? Where have the seasons gone? We have winter, worse winter, about a week of spring, winter again, summer, more humid summer, a bit of fall, just kidding- hot and humid again!- and then winter. Spring basically doesn't exist here anymore.

GhostWhoCooksDinner's picture

Autumn used to be my absolute favorite- the colors, the pumpkins, apple picking, Halloween, cozy sweaters, all that. But as I get older, I'm liking summer more and more. Mainly because of the loooooong days! The days start getting shorter and shorter, and it's depressing as hell. And what comes next? A frigid, gloomy, loooooong upstate NY winter. Ugh! But I do love Christmas, even though it involves running from house to house and we never get to spend it at home.

BUT...but...cider donuts!!! and that is all I have to say about that!

I've never been a pumpkin spice girl. But did you know that if you look in a mirror and say "pumpkin spice three times, a basic chick in yoga pants and Uggs will appear and tell you all her favorite things about fall. Try it! Biggrin

ESMOD's picture

I don't like Fall because it is the start of a cold season. It means the dreaded holidays. (hate christmas and thanksgiving..ugh.. oh and lump in New years.. whatever.. and then valentine's day. None have ever lived up to even close to their hype).

And cold, cold toes, cold fingers... frozen pipes and ice and snow to deal with. grey gloomy days. short days and commutes in the dark. Not a fan.

Don't get me wrong.. I like AC in my house so I can sleep in the cool..lol. But I am actually pretty ok with temps being in the 80's f as long as I don't have to do a super amount of physical activity in it. I get a bit over the 92 plus days though.

Anyone get the feeling that I am getting depressed now? wahhhhhh.

TexasPickles's picture

Love long summer days but nothing beats autumn. The colors are overwhelming. The smells and flavors are such a welcome change.

Not a winter person though. January and February are a personal struggle for me, and I do believe it is because of short days.
