OT - Eff Off/Forn Friday

Aniki-Moderator's picture

TGIF, STalkers! It's a balmy 12° in my neck of the woods and we've gotten about 40" of snow in the last few days. I <3 Winter!

Eff off to:

  • King Pita. He is the only person I've ever known to consistently say in every Zoom, "I don't have anything, BUT..." and proceeds to yammer on and on and on... Can an irritating voice give you ear fungus? *wacko*
  • Me and my OCD. It has been driving me bonkers that the table knives are not being used equally as there is no method to stack them with recently used/freshly washed ones on the bottom. Well, the proverbial light bulb finally lit up. I now place the just-used/washed knives in upside-down (handles at the top) so that when we reach for a knife, we know to grab one by the handle. Once all knives are upside-down, I flip them right-side up. Yes, this helps me sleep at night.

FORN FRIDAY

Forn is 'food' and 'p0rn' combined.

Leftovers. What to do with leftovers or an excess of something (yes, YOU, celery!) became a challenge during the pandemic. I have a new one with a blueberry muffin I forgot. It's STALE. "Sprinkle water on it, put it in a paper bag, and bake at 350 for 10-15 seconds. Turn the oven on to bake 10-15 seconds?? Pfffffft.

In a few minutes, I'm going to try my hand at....

Muffin Bread Pudding for One

Fingers crossed it will turn out okay. Hey, that muffin was $$!

What are some of your fave leftover/excess food item ideas?

Wishing you a stress-free, healthy, and enjoyable weekend!

asking a million questions before giving the presentator a chance to present and possibly answer the questions you have. This is the co-worker who said she knew how to draft construction documents, asked for my help to meet a deadline, hardly worked on them, got COVID, came back and all the while it became my job and problem to work on them and get them out. Plus the work she had done on them I had to correct mistakes. Wasn't my project, just was supposed to "help" on some to speed it up. Well yesterday's meeting, had 20 questions before the rep presentened then asked if I had any questions and I was like "I have some questions, but I am going to see if they get answered in her presentation first." Then when I asked the rep the one question I had that wasn't answered, the co-worker was so focused on her next question didn't even listen to my question and the answer, then asked the same question a different way............. So happy it is Friday

Eff off to BM yet again for claiming she "just can't" drop SSs off - as stated in their CO - because she has "plans". She has only been driving them for three years (before that she insisted DH was interpreting the CO wrong and told him it was "unfair" to expect her to drive one way), yet I swear she has been unable to at least 60 times. She knows that she is required to do this, yet nearly every other Friday, without fail, she has a "conflict" that she can't move. DH agreed to switch a couple of times, telling her that he couldn't switch permanently, yet despite that, when he says he can't switch, she says, "you never accommodate me!!!" and "I guess they just won't be able to come to your house this weekend!" Talk about an irresponsible baby! She used to pay a neighbor teen to take them, but last time she didn't pay the girl (we know this because this girl drove back to our house to tell SS that she didn't get her money or didn't get enough money), so I'm sure that girl is now refusing. Visitation hasn't even started and there's already drama.

To Bratty McBratFace.  We have a website for our reception later this summer that includes a hotel block for our of town guests.  Of course Bratty has to text SO and ask if she was expected to book a room for herself and Nutter.  As if, Bratty.  Of course Daddeee will be paying for your lodging and thankfully it will be in a different location from me Smile

FORN - I am going to try to make air fryer mozza sticks (along with homemade cocktail meatballs and sauteed mushrooms) for a quiet at-home happy hour today.  I hope they come out ok!

Not many effs today again.  Yay!

Leftovers - we just had some yummy leftover roasted chicken last night from a roasted chicken the night before. I sauted up some carrots in butter and dill, stuck some french fries in the oven (couldn't be bothered to make potatoes) and it was a totally different dinner than the night before. However, a third chicken day will not happen.  Think I'll stop by the store on my way home and get a couple pre-made dinners from the deli and call it good.

It sounds.... different. But it is good.

Still too many effs to even eff about.

Very late to the party.  Blame the time difference.  By 11am Aniki time, its wine o'clock TASM time.

Eff off to invading armies.

F0rn left overs

I stretched last weekend's roast chicken dinner through a lot of the week.

  • Original meal - Roast chicken with roast celeriac
  • Then stripped meat and used bones and veg peelings to make stock
  • Risotto made with half the stock and some leftover meat.  Finished with peas, parmesan and butter
  • Celeriac and potato soup with the rest of the stock.  This made two meals.
  • Fake chicken "burgers" made with left over meat, brioche buns with all the usual burger trimmings and condiments plus fries
  • Chicken, lettuce and tomato sandwiches with chips.

My mother brought us up to be super frugal about wasting food.  It stuck with me but she nearly cries when she sees my younger sister throwing away a chicken carcase or beef bones.  If she's at my sister's house she'll grab the leftovers and take them home to make her own stock.

This weekend's food was lentil, caulflower, potato and pea curry on Friday.  Then tortilla's stuffed with chili con carne, roasted bell peppers and beans.

My mother brought us up the same way. I made a pork tenderloin last week and some Blackberry-Jalapeño sauce to go with it. Froze the rest. This week:

  • Thin slices of pork fried in a little bacon grease topped with red eye gravy for DH and SS19 (work meal)
  • Pork fajita bowl (my dinner tonight)
  • Pulled pork with barbecue sauce (my dinner tomorrow(

Eff off to waving goodbye to DD19 as she set off to go back to school in the US. This is a pretty weak eff off because I am actually really proud of her and how she's handled this year away. She was only back for a week and it was far too short.

Forn? I had a spare boneless, skinless chicken breast that will be going into a mulligatawny soup this evening. It's made with red lentils, ginger root (how I love ginger!) and a variety of spices (cumin, coriander, etcc.) and lemon juice. I mioght even make a ton of fluffy basmati to eat with it Smile

Kudos to your DD!

Ginger is soooooo tasty!

TASM, it was delicious! Will soon buy another muffin and let it go stale for a repeat performance.

Muffin Bread Pudding for One

1 Tbsp butter

1 stale muffin, cubed (as best you can)

1 large egg

3 Tbsp milk (I used heavy cream)

1 Tbsp brown sugar

1 tsp vanilla

1/2 tsp cinnamon

sprinkle of nutmeg

Put a pat of butter in the bottom of the big mug and microwave in 10-15 second intervals to melt. Coat bottom and sides of mug. (I used a 5x5 square dish.)

Cube the muffin and place it in the mug. Add the crumbs!

In a small bowl, whisk together egg, milk, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour slowly over the muffin in the mug, pushing the muffin down slightly with a fork into the egg mixture to coat.

Microwave on high for 1 minute and check. You want a toothpick to come out clean. This will take anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes, depending on your microwave. Mine took 2 mins 40 seconds.

Drizzle with honey or maple syrup.

I'm late to EFF off Friday so I will do Eff off Monday.. which is fitting since I am back in my office after another stretch of remote work due to company worries of covid.

1.  Eff off Covid (kind of).  My DH and I actually got covid about a month ago.. it actually was pretty much a cold.  I got fever for 2 days.. then sore throat and congestion for 3 days.. and lingering nasal and throat congestion for a couple more weeks... not too bad actually.  Was jabbed.. so maybe that helped our symptoms be less bad.

2. Eff off to my Company for forcing us back in the office.   I have been talking with mgt about remote work for well over 2 years.. pre pandemic.  I was told then we could do it as a test basis.. but when covid hit.. everyone went home.  I made a lot of changes due to working remotely based on teh assumption that after 2 years of exemplary work... they would certainly be ok with an extension of it.. The "new" formal request is now lingering "somewhere" over my manager's head.. for over two months at this point.  I was clear that my DH took a job that would mean that I could travel with him and would be able to work remotely... that I needed to have a confirmation that I could have this flexibility.. of course.. he had to take the job when it was offered.. no company will wait months for you to accept a job.  He quit the local job that was just not cutting it for us/him. We got rid of our dog, horse, birds (all rehomed to good  homes.. not just dumped).. and I still don't have an answer.  My boss asks me if he thinks we should start negotiating.. that what about 50% in office.. (I was suggesting one week a month that I would TRAVEL at my own expense to work in office).. I said.  NO.. we have been talking about this for years.. and that I have proven I am capable of doing my job remotely.. that I am a great, long term employee.. that almost all the work I do involves people that arent' even in my office.. it's ridiculous to force me to drive 4 hours a day to attend my office when I can actually get more work done elsewhere since I wouldn't be wasting time with a commute.

But here we are.. approaching 3 years into them dragging their feet on an actual answer.  My immediate boss has been good about being flexible..but I can't just rely on his good graces.. I need to have official permission.

It honestly pisses me off... I have seen others in the department get promotions way faster than I was given as a woman in a male dominated group.  I am not an engineer.. so there are promotional levels I can't get.. so I am actually one of the more sr people in the group.. but stuck at basically the lowest level of anyone in my group (except for the admin).... I have been with the company 20 years.. with my dept 15.. I really feel I have earned this and that my situation is unique enough to have this request be reasonable.  My manager actually agrees.. but has not been able to get an answer yet.  arghhhhh.

ESMOD, I'm PO'd for you. What a crock!!

Our return date has been pushed back yet again. Most of us would be ecstatic if it became permanent. A few want to return, but most of them are social butterflies who miss physically interacting. Upper management wants it because they are dinosaurs who believe bodies must be IN the office. Horsepuckey. We have proven that, not only do we get the job done, we get it done faster and more efficiently. Whenever we are forced to return, I predict that productivity will go down and absence will go up. Oh, and some will quit because they moved. One guy moved to another state and is now 4 hours away! He'd have to spend 8+ hours a day commuting, move back, or find another job. And with more permanent remote jobs available, it's more likely he'll quit. Which sucks because he is excellent at what he does.
