And I am especially thankful that I don't have a randomly vegan stepkid at my table this year Smile

SO and I are signed up for our local 5K Turkey Trot in the morning, and then I am making a small feast for SO and I:  a 3 lb turkey breast, dressing, green bean casserole, mashed sweet potatoes, cornbread, cranberry sauce.  Dutch apple pie for dessert.  Everything homemade from scratch.  Then, laze around and watch football and movies all day.  I love this holiday!!!

CLove's picture

That sounds ah-mazing :D

I am going to do a short hike pre-dinner whic occurs at 1:30 PST.

Then we are going to be eating a dinner at a restaurant on a golf course overlooking the ocean with my Mom, Dad, DH and Sd15.

Ill bring my new Go-Pro and take pics for my Holiday/Christmas photo card.

And then - real-ax Biggrin

Wait I'm sure it was 'tradition', or the ice cream company's fault?  She should check in with Bratty for what excuse to use!

Wishing you a happy and peaceful day, CLove. You deserve it!

Thanks CajunMom.

Of course we don't have Thanksgiving here in England, but I hope all of you who celebrate it, have a great one, with zero step drama !

Happy Thanskgiving! Out of the 10% of people completely unvaccinated in my state, 6 of them are my family members, so it's going to just be me and DH alone. I'm okay with that.

I like a small quiet Thanksgiving so much better than family gatherings.  I like seeing my family, don't get me wrong, but I guess this day I really just want to relax and reflect.  Its hard to do that when you're constantly having to entertain and engage with a big group.

Last year we did a 'friendsgiving' in Napa that was fun.  Would definitely do that again.  But going forward I am going to try and steer clear of the big gatherings this time of year.  I become more anti-social the older I get!!

Yeah, I feel sad because my family is fractured over the vaccine issue, and I don't know how many more holidays my 87-year-old mom has (though she's in great shape). But at the same time, just having Thanksgiving with us alone is nice too.

CLove's picture

We zoomed with family last year. And then did our own thing. Im looking forward to the hike in the am Biggrin My new thing.

Im very grateful for you and your kind words and thoughtful observances, Tog.

Thank you!

We did Zoom last year, but I'm not up for it this year, when we could all be together except for the vaccine hold-outs who don't give a crap about anyone but themselves.  Should be them that are excluded, but instead I have to exclude myself.

caninelover's picture

A vaccine can cause so much strife.  I hope things eventually smooth over.  Call your mom and spend some quality chat time with her.

She's vaccinated but choosing to be with part of the family that has one unvaccinated member. My DH is immuno compromised, so we just aren't willing to take that chance.  I'm sure I will speak to her, but it kind of stinks that those of us who need to be safe are the ones who have to stay away vs those too selfish to vaccinate.

caninelover's picture

Totally understand your decision.  Some people can be bizarrely selfish.

Last year during the lockdowns, I made my first turkey dinner for me, DH and his friend, my other roomate. (JK)

And we zoom called everyone, which was really really nice Biggrin

My Thanksgiving suggestion:  back in the day, I had many young women working for me.  Every Thanksgiving, they would moan and groan about having to go to a MIL"s house for Thanksgiving.  In the midst of 5 kids and all of that, I'd think, I wish I could go someplace and have somebody else do all the work.  So my suggestion was: "Look nice, go, take something, smile a lot and leave.  Done. The day will come when you have to do all the work",

CLove's picture

Last year I made my very first Thanksgiving meal all by myself and cooked a turkey. It was FUN!!!! Lol. Just pour another glass of wine and do the prep Biggrin And everyone else does cleanup.

caninelover's picture

Yes, the two MUST go together :)  In fact, I am logging off of work early today to get going on the pie and some other prep.  Not that today was particulary productive work-wise LOL.

Though we don't have Thanksgiving here, I can wish it to one of my daughters who is in the US studying for a year!

And this day serves as a reminder to be grateful, rather than just a stess-filled family gathering, its a good time of reflection, and Im very grateful for all the support and kind words youve given over the years.

Biggrin

Thanksgiving is the holiday I miss the most! I usually cook a small turkey breast, stuffing, mashed potatoes and green beans, but after last year, I won't do it again if the skids are with us (it's UN-AUSTRALIAN!! Appearantly I am trying to convert them to Americans through turkey and gratitude, lol!). I hope you're all able to enjoy wherever you are and whoever you're with!
