OT - Thirsty Thursday

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Happy Thursday, STalkers! We're one day closer to the weekend and I've been thinking about lemonade all week. We're going fishing this weekend. Well, DH is fishing. I'll have my nose stuck in a book. Biggrin

Anyhoo, we're pic-a-nicking and that's why I've been in lemonade mode. Here are 3 recipes I'm considering.

BLUEBERRY LEMONADE

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 3/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  1. To make the blueberry simple syrup, combine sugar and 1 cup water in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Stir in blueberries and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer until blueberries have broken down, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Strain blueberry mixture through a cheesecloth or fine sieve; let cool.
  3. In a large pitcher, whisk together blueberry simple syrup, lemon juice and 5 cups water. Place in the refrigerator until chilled.
  4. Serve over ice and blueberries, if desired.

PEACH LEMONADE

  • 4 cups water, divided
  • 2 medium peaches, chopped
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 medium lemon, sliced
  • Mint sprigs, optional
  1. In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups water, peaches and sugar to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 5-7 minutes or until peaches are tender. Remove from the heat. Cool. Strain, discarding peach skins.
  2. In a large pitcher, combine the peach mixture, lemon juice and remaining water. Add lemon slices and mint if desired. Serve over ice.

STRAWBERRY LEMONADE

  • 8 large strawberries, halved
  • 1 cup + 2 Tbsp sugar, divided
  • 7 cups water, divided
  • 2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice
  1. Place strawberries in a blender; top with 2 tablespoons sugar. Pour 1 cup water over sugared strawberries. Blend until strawberry chunks transform into juice.
  2. Combine strawberry juice, 6 cups water, 1 cup sugar, and lemon juice in a large pitcher; stir until blended. Chill before serving.

Thoughts? Do you have a lemonade or tea or some other refreshing drink recipe you'd like to share? Pssssst... for those who like spiked lemonade, I think all of those recipes could be spiked with any numbers of liquors: vodka, rum, gin, bourbon...

DH is on his annual solo vaca this week, he'll be back on Sunday, and I've been revelling in the alone time. I actively turned down two invitations this week so I can do my own thing (like re-doing our hallway floor - actually fun stuff for me! - and no one but the cats are here so it's much easier!).

I love peach iced tea and peach anything!   However I am not a drink-maker. I did make blackberry and a plum infused vodka two years ago, but that's the extent of it.  Most often I just drink soda water and fancy it up with lemon now and then.

Cover, my DH luuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrs peaches. If I don't bake him at least one peach pie a year, he's sad. LOL

Have you ever had a Bellini? Delicious!!!

Cover1W's picture

Belini!  Oh my, my fave. I have some bubbly in the fridge for this weekend!  I am now going to hope that the store has those amazing peaches still....you have me inspired.

I'm the only one in the house that likes peaches!  So they are allllll mine!  Smile

I make mine with prosecco. A lot of people prefer moscato, but that's too sweet for me.

I have to hide peaches or DH will eat them all!

Thanks for sharing those Aniki. Yum!

Not much a fan of sweet. Maybe a little less sugar?

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Watereddown, I prefer things a bit more tart than most and typically use less sugar. It probably goes back to childhood as my Mom made Kool-Aid with half of the sugar.

LOL - we did this in our house too.  Half sugar was so much more refreshing!

Yes!

We basically only drank sugar free suff. As a result super sweet things make my stomach super sad and just aren't super delicious either. lmao

Those or just nothing sweet at all. Unsweetened herbal tea and water mostly. lmao

My DH cannot fathom my idea of lemonade being freshly squeezed lemon juice and water. No sugar. *crazy*

NjororsDaughter, I like iced tea, too.

Jeg vil prøve dette: erstatt kald te med vannet og bruk mindre sukker.

I'll have to try that one!

No big plans for the weekend.  There is a nice winery that we are members of and we'll try to get up there - the seating is outdoors and very peaceful so we love going up there with a picnic lunch and enjoying a bottle.

All your recipes sound good to me. DH and I just took a long weekend at a resort nearby. He played golf and I was poolside   Bartender made a super cocktail for me - it had lemonade, some pineapple juice, some strawberry purée, and coconut rum.  (Maybe a splash of sprite?). I'm going to try and recreate it here very soon!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

That drink sounds really tasty, soy_girl! I wonder if the lemonade was to cut the acidity of the pineapple juice.

If not sprite, it may have been club soda. Smile

Things are so hectic at work. But after things slow down I am going to push it forward.

Meanwhile Husband wants us to buy a sailboat...

Love peach anything!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

A sailboat? How cool, CLove! I've never been on one. With my luck, I'd likely not duck at the appropriate moment and get knocked out of the boat. *lol*

Now hes thinking of redoing the kitchen instead. Biggrin

Which makes me VERY happy. We already have 3 boats we dont use all the time!!!!

Yay!!! My kitchen has been in remodel for over 4 years. Part of it is my fault because I want things done in a certain order. IMO, no point in replacing the floor until all of the painting is done. Biggrin

Yo Aniki - great to see you're still whacking up those beautiful drink recipes!! All these sounds yummy - and I would definitely be adding gin or vodka to that! I, however, am still a beers girl..lol!!!  Hope you remember me - think my last blog was "stick a pork in me - i'm done.." thank God that saga in my life is over! However - I'm back - and boy have I got a story to tell! Have started blogging now Smile

I DO remember you, Island Girl! Although it does not exactly bode well that you're hear with a story to tell... xoxo

OK, here's mine. Squeeze the juice from one lime. Put a slice of fresh ginger through your juicer and then a peeled pineapple. The ginger gives it such a kick that you can't believe there's no alcohol in it (pregnant women LOVE it!). Of course, should you want add alcohol, it had better be rum.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Winterglow, that sounds so refreshing! And I would definitely add rum for an alco-bev. How about some Mount Gay? *drinks*

TASM, I prefer my lemonade quite tart. As in, lemon juice and water! However, the addition of fruit makes it a bit of a game changer for me. NjororsDaughter and I think that substituting cold tea (black, green) for the water and cutting down on the lemon juice could be tasty.

I have never heard of lemoncello prosecco, but that sounds good!
