OT - Quarantine 15 fitness plan

Warning - this post is going to be over the top optimistic.  I'm in a great mood.

Like just about everyone else I know, lockdown has kicked my previously healthy and lean butt. Lack of motivation to exercise and a crap diet have caught up to me, and I'm a little squishier than I'd like to be.  I'm a cyclist and a runner, but I haven't had the motivation to cycle at all in months, and running right now would be ROUGH.  I needed something new.

So I bought rollerskates. Super retro inspired, pastel colored, pro rollerskates.  With matching safety gear. I've finally been able to go outside with them and it's the most delightful workout I've ever done. I watched a ton of tutorials on how to glide, stop, and even how to fall. Today I went outside for the first time and skated for almost two hours on the beach path. It was fun as hell, and even though my shins hurt like crazy, I'm going out again tomorrow. And the next day. I'm going to shoot for one hour per day of pure skating JOY.

It really doesn't matter how much weight I lose, really. I'm just glad I found something that makes me want to work out and get sweaty after all this lockdown gloominess.

Has anyone here discovered something new that you're suddenly passionate about?  Maybe you can inspire me to try something else new!

Rollerblading is amazing!  It's fun, it's intense, it's joyful, it makes you feel carefree, and you can learn largely on your own.

I am SO excited for you.  Skating along a beach path makes it even beter, pain in the shins makes it all worth it!  Depending on where you plan to skate, consider looking into knee pads.  You are going to have the GREATEST time. Having a pair of pretty skates you love makes it even better, icing on the cake, cherry on top.  I just want to say, I am so so happy for you.

I'm currently getting into embriodery and it is suprisingly fun!

Rollerskating is amazing.  It feels fun while giving you exercise at the same time.

I'd advise checking to see if there are fellow skaters in your area.  I met the most amazing eclectic group of people through skating in my city.  Everyone from boring corporate types like me to artists, designers, actors, journalist, students, scientists, nannies, doctors, etc.  It was multicultural too.  We've ended up at each others wedding, (sadly) funerals and group holidays.

That's a great idea!  I was out skating today and another woman on rollerskates went by and high-fived me.  The positivity level in this sport is amazing.

I used to skate A LOT... some might say too much.  Oh and ice skating.

Running. I was a bike commuter, 1.5 hours a day then the commute stopped. So I started running, first time since college. I'm not a great runner but my endurance is good.

It's been so nice to just put on shoes and go in the early morning. However my muscles are great but my older joints not so much. Have had some issues with tendons too. And I do stretch a lot and do yoga. Just getting old. love trail running!

So I'm back on the bike twice a week doing nightmare hill climbs/reps for an hour. Big bad hills. It hurts so good.

Nowhere to blade or skate here. I used to live on a great shared trail years ago and would blade for miles.....

Adjustable weight dumbbells.  Lift enough weight that you don't injure yourself but still feel tired after 10-30 reps.  Lift them over your head standing, toward you while standing, away from yourself laying down, hold them in place while you squat as low as you can go, etc.

Do as many reps as you can.  If you're sore the next day, you did something.  Building lean muscle increases your metabolism.
